Bill-Oberst-Jr-Lewis-GrizzardTHU-SUN OCT 2-5 – LEWIS GRIZZARD SHOW – Actor Bill Oberst, Jr. has stepped into the late Lewis Grizzard’s shoes over 1,000 times in the last decade. Oberst’s portrayal of the Southern writer and humorist is a one-man show authorized by Grizzard’s family, which says it is the closest thing to seeing the late great spokesman of the south onstage again since Grizzard’s death at age 47. The show is presented in two acts and runs 90 minutes.  Tickets are available at the www.earlsmithstrand.org.

FRI OCT 3 – PRESSING MATTERS MEMBERS EXHIBITION – Continuing through November 21st, this fine art exhibition recognizes the outstanding quality and diversity of work being generated by APS members. All works shown will be original prints using hand-pulled printmaking processes. FRI OCT 3 – FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK 5-9 First Friday Art Walk on the historic Marietta Square will be held on October 3, from 5-9 p.m., with over 30 artists showing their work in front of numerous merchants, restaurants and galleries hosting them.  This is the last Art Walk for this year. FRI OCT 3 POP/REALISM PAINTINGS Avery Gallery presents Pop/Realism Paintings by Clifford Land.  This entertaining show opens on Friday, October 3 from 5 – 9 pm at Avery Gallery, 390 Roswell St. in Marietta. Mick Kinney & The Georgia Crackers will be playing live 1920’s era Appalachian mountain music with string instruments; fiddle, banjo and guitar.   GG’s Creole Cuisine will be providing an excellent sampling of delicious creole food.

FRI OCT 3 MARIETTA HISTORY MUSEUM. 5-9 Join us during ArtWalk for An Eerie Evening at the Museum. The Museum will be hosting a variety of “special” guests, who will offer tales of Marietta’s past. This event is FREE but donations are greatly appreciated.  1 Depot St., Marietta.

PRETZELSAT OCT 4 Holy Trinity Oktoberfest 10-7 Come  help MUST Ministries Food Pantry  Saturday by bringing canned foods. We invite our community to Holy Trinity’s 6th Annual Oktoberfest!  Oktoberfest was created to help our local residents enjoy a day of safe inexpensive fun and to help MUST Ministries Food Pantry.  We invite visitors to donate 4 cans = 1 adult admission  or 2 cans= child admission.  Activities include; Kids games & crafts.  Pony Rides and Petting Zoo, Horseshoe Tournament, Bingo, Craft Fair, LUTHER movie, German Heritage and more.  Our authentic German food and beverages are reasonably priced and delicious. TUE OCT 7 – BLOOD DRIVE – The City of Kennesaw is hosting a community blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive. TUE OCT 7 – STORMWATER UTILITY MEETING – 6 pm in the Public Works facility at 3080 Moon Station Road, Kennesaw. One of two meetings to provide Kennesaw residential property owners the opportunity to learn about a proposed stormwater utility. TUE OCT 7 – PENNIES FOR A PURPOSE – Paddy’s Pub, in Kennesaw, is hosting their annual fundraiser starting at 7:00 pm.  Join us for Karaoke, Silent Auctions, and Raffles. The money raised goes to the Georgia Cancer Center to help patients receiving chemo. TUE OCT 7 – REDEVELOPMENT FORUM – Rebuilding Cobb’s Future, at the KSU Center from 7:30-11:00 a.m. This central gathering of stakeholders, developers, economists and leadership from local, state and federal agencies will explore the redevelopment opportunities in Cobb County. girlsWED OCT 8 – NCHS HOMECOMING COW DROP AND OUTDOOR MOVIE – 3RD annual cow drop for North Cobb High School begins at 6:30 followed by an outdoor movie.  Bring your blankets and lawn chairs!  Cows can be purchased at the NCHS front office.  Buy a cow or two for your chance to win FREE Chick-Fil-A for a year!

WED OCT 8 – MARIETTA COUNCIL OF GARDENS MEETING – 9:30am,  Come and socialize and listen to this month’s program on  ‘Our Love, Roses’.  The speaker will be Dr. Bruce Gillett, who is a well known Consulting Rosarian certified by the American Rose Society, a Cobb County Master Gardener and author.  Bruce is the head gardener of the Rose Garden at Smith Gilbert Garden in Kennesaw.  The meeting also informs you on what the garden clubs are doing in the Marietta area. WED OCT 8 – OPIATE/HEROIN ADDICITON SYMPOSIUM – from 7-9pm., the Davis Direction Foundation along with Marietta High School (MHS, 1171 Whitlock Avenue NW, Marietta) will be hosting their second Symposium in a series of four, on the topic of the “Continuum of Care” for opiate/heroin addiction.  They will also be hosting a Recovery Fair in the lobby of the Marietta Performing Arts Building at MHS. THUR OCT 9 – HOMECOMING PARADE AND BLOCK PARTY – The Parade starts at 6 PM; The Block Party starts at 7 PM; Everything is finished by 9 PM. The North Cobb High School family would love for the word to be spread and families from all over to attend. This is a wonderful family friendly event where kids of all ages are encouraged to come. There will be great music, food, crafts for the kids, face painting, inflatables, and a photo booth where people dressed up as Disney characters can take pictures with all of the kids.
