North Georgia

It’s FAIR time. North Georgia State Fair Starts Thursday, Sept 21.

GET READY TO SLIDE AT SUPERIOR PLUMBING NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR

Hey Georgia! Get ready to slide into some mega size fun! The Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair is proud to add the mega slide to our already outstanding James H. Drew Exposition midway. Before being acquired by the Drew Expositions, the Mega Slide spent many years at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, N.Y. The slide has been completely refurbished top to bottom with a colorful new paint job (fun insider fact: Yellow paint keeps the slide cool, even more so than white!). At fifty feet high and rippling out an impressive one hundred and seventy feet, the yellow and green mega slide will be one of the most iconic structures at the North Georgia State Fair. With wavy lengths of grooved, galvanized metal over a steel scaffolding support, the newest ride at Jim R. Miller Park will have everyone talking.

The first giant slide made its appearance at a state fair in Minnesota in 1968. Since then, generations of families have enjoyed this oversized attraction. However, they have become increasingly rare, with less than 10 giant slides operating in the U.S. Drew Expositions owner, Jimmy Drew, says “We are thrilled to bring the iconic mega slide to the North Georgia State Fair. We are always looking for new ways to wow our patrons, so we look for those wow attractions like the Wildcat Rollercoaster, the Georgia Mountain Lift, and now, the Mega Slide”.

Fair Manager, Tod Miller adds, “We are so thankful to Drew Expositions for selecting the North Georgia State Fair to be the new home of the Mega Slide. It is such a classic fair attraction and everyone ages three to ninety-three, loves it. We know it is sure to become a new family tradition”.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in Dahlonega

Seven_Brides_for_Seven_Brothers_London_recordingThe Holly Theater is going to the backwoods of Oregon in the 1850’s with an audience favorite, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, for their upcoming musical production.    This energetic and fun-filled show will be performed for 3 consecutive weekends:  July 19 -21, July 26 – 28 and August 2 – 4.

Based on the popular movie, this production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was adapted by Lawrence Kasha and David Landay with music by Gene de Paul and lyrics by Johnny Mercer.  The story tells of the Pontipee brothers who are living a rough and lonely existence on their woodland farm.  The eldest brother, Adam –makes the trip from the farm in the rugged Oregon Territory countryside to town to pick up some goods for the months ahead – including a wife.

He stumbles upon Milly, a serving girl with passion and sass, who falls for his sweet talk about the farming life. They are quickly married, but when Milly returns with Adam to his home, she finds there are also six rowdy brothers living there.   Milly valiantly attempts to civilize the brothers so that they can find brides of their own.  But Milly’s plan backfires when the brothers decide to go find six women to be their brides.  What follows is a hilarious series of events full of dancing, fighting and even kidnapping.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is chock-full of delightful comedy, show-stopping dances, and charming melodies including “Wonderful, Wonderful Day,” “Bless Your Beautiful Hide”, “Sobbin’ Women”, and “Goin’ Courtin’.”

Shows on Friday and Saturday nights begin at 8:00PM and Sunday Matinees begin at 2:00 PM.  Tickets are $18.00 for Adults and $12.00 for Children & Students. Tickets available on line at www.hollytheater.com

Directed by Jamie Fambrough, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is full of the boisterous fun and romance that harkens back to the glory days of the movie musical.  Join us for a rip-roarin’ good time!
