strawberriesFRIDAYS: ACWORTH FARMER’S MARKET – Every Friday morning starting April 8 and ending October 28. The market is located in Historic Downtown Acworth in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking Lot on the north end of Main Street. Market customers will have a wide variety of garden ripe Georgia grown vegetables, eggs, cheese, bedding plants, fresh baked bread, pies, cakes, honey and jams to choose from each week. This year’s market will be bigger and better than previous years and shoppers won’t believe the selection of home grown goodies! The market is located in Historic Downtown Acworth in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking Lot on the north end of Main Street.

Celebrate the Catch The Wave exhibit of the Coca-Cola Company and Mason Fine Arts Exhibit – contemporary history through the eyes of Coca-Cola and enjoy the sounds of Douglas Cameron playing hits of the Big Band Era and swing.  Admission is $10; Members free.  Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.  Call 770-528-1444.

concertFRI APR 29 GLOVER PARK CONCERT SERIES 8:00 pm.  This season’s series kicks off with Still Swinging, Big Band music.  The event is free, however tables are available to rent. Table reservations are taken on a first come basis (and will sell out quickly) on the first working day of each month beginning at 8:00 a.m. www.mariettaga.gov/concerts. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park. Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

SAT APR 30 – NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Marietta Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Marietta Police Department at 240 Lemon St Marietta, Ga 30060.  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.  This is also being hosted by the Kennesaw Police Department and Acworth Police Department at their respective stations.

SAT APR 30 – AGING BY DESIGN SUMMIT AND EXPO – 9am-2pm at Roswell Street Baptist Church. Featuring keynote speakers, Coach Vince and Barbara Dooley. Free health screening from 10am-2pm. Early registration at any Cobb County Senior Center is $5 until Friday April 22nd. After deadline is $10 per person.

SOLD OUT!! SAT APR 30 Georgia Symphony Orchestra 8:00 pm.  The final concert of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra’s 65th Anniversary Season will be a presentation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Guest conductor Duilio Dobrin is the third and final candidate in the organization’s search for its new music director. The concert will be held at The Marietta Performing Arts Center located at 1171Whitlock Avenue, adjacent to Marietta High School in Marietta. Tickets are $20-$30. SAT APR 30 – CLASSIC CAR CRUISE NIGHT –  The city of Acworth will host a Classic Car Cruise from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Acworth.  The Lake City Cruisers partner with the city and the downtown Acworth merchants to hold these Classic Car Cruises. The event is free to the public. A $2 entry fee is requested for all vehicles in the cruise.  All proceeds go to the Horizon Field, an all-inclusive special needs sports facility in Acworth. SAT APR 30 – COMPLIMENTARY MOVIE FOR MILITARY FAMILIES – The Think Melissa Team is honored to help celebrate our current and past military families with a COMPLIMENTARY movie event, in honor of April being the Month of the Military Child. All military (active, veterans, National Guard and Reserves) families are welcome to attend. We are working with the Georgia National Guard Family Program and Silverton Mortgage, to host this event. Marietta Tree KeepersMarietta Tree Keepers invites you to attend our next Sip n’ Stroll this Spring. The event features a special neighborhood to tour with tree experts, identifying common opportunities and issues relating to trees. It’s free and open to the public … and it’s BYOB.

For this Sip n’ Stroll, we will stroll down the neighborhood streets of Whitlock Heights. Certified arborists and landscape architects will lead the tour of the neighborhood, pointing out the many treasures and challenges that exist among our valuable stock of trees. The experts will offer practical advice as to how we can extend the life of our mature trees and how we can plan for their eventual replacement. The experts will discuss overhead utilities, proper pruning, protecting root systems and selecting the right specimen for the right location.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own evening refreshments and MTK will provide water and light snacks. The event will only be cancelled if it is raining heavy or lightning.  Location is in Whitlock Heights and will meet at 361 N. Hillcrest Dr., Marietta, GA  30064.  Please park on N. Hillcrest Dr.

Sing Along with Mamma Mia!

Sing along to your favorite ABBA songs with a theatre full of your friends at Mamma Mia! Set on the colorful Greek island of Kalokairi, the plot serves as a lively background for a wealth of ABBA songs, and we’ll even put the lyrics on the screen for you! A young woman soon to be married discovers that any one of three men (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth) could be her father. She invites all three to the wedding without telling her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep). Watch the drama ensue in this feel-good experience that will have you singing and dancing in the aisles.

LITTLE MISS COBB PAGEANT- Feb 6

Little Miss Cobb 2015There is still time to register for this year’s Little Miss Cobb County Pageant.

Young ladies ages 2 years through 18 years are invited to participate in the 25th anniversary Little Miss Cobb County Pageant set for the Marietta Campus, Kennesaw State University,  Joe Mack Wilson Theatre, Marietta, starting at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 6th. Six beauty titles will be awarded that day.

The pageant is managed and conducted to support the Miss Cobb County Pageant, a preliminary for Miss Georgia in the Miss America system.  Emcees for the day will be Brooke Doss,  Miss Cobb County 2016, and Carley Vogel, Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen 2016.

The new Cobb representatives will be goodwill ambassadors and ride in several area parades including the Kennesaw Big Shanty Festival  in April and the Marietta Fourth of July.  A host of prizes include a tiara, banner, trophy, flowers, teddy bear and crown pin. Also the winners will be guests at the North Georgia State Fair and the Miss Cobb County Pageant. A photogenic session and modeling training also await the title holders. PARADOCS: Rockin’ for 20 Years


Paradocs Rockin for 20 YearsIs there a hole in your concert schedule that is just begging for some classic rock mixed in with some Motown, country, and a few surprises? Are you missing some doc rock in your life? This Friday, January 29th, you’re in luck. The PARADOCS, founded by Dr. Larry Clements and Dr. Joe Havlik, is comprised of healthcare professionals from the metro Atlanta area who have a passion for music. During the past sixteen years, members have come and gone but the mission of the band has stayed the same – have fun, play great music and make a positive difference.
