SAT JUL 8 – CIVIL WAR ON THE HOMEFRONT EVENT – Join the William Root House Museum & Garden as we travel back to July 1864, when the Root family fled from Marietta, leaving their home to the advancing Union Army. Head outside to meet with Union soldiers as they take over the house, constructing a headquarters and attempting to recruit new soldiers. 10:00am – 4:00pm at the William Root House Museum & Garden; 80 N Marietta Parkway NW, Marietta, GA 30060. SAT JUL 8 – METRO MONTAGE XVII EXHIBITION – Metro Montage is the MCMA’s annual juried exhibition featuring all types of genre, medium, style, subject matter, concept and/or technique.  Metro features works of fine art by contemporary artists that showcase the diversity within our nation’s culture.  Light refreshments served ~ Cash Bar ~ Opening reception is a benefit of museum membership ~ All future members and other guests are welcome at $10 per person. MON-FRI JUL 10-14 – SUMMER THEATRE CAMPS AT THE STRAND – Theatre Intensive (July 10-14, 9am-12:30pm)-Great opportunity to get deeper into the ins and outs of theatre. A well-rounded student of the arts makes for a better performer — both offstage and on. Parents are invited to the last hour of class on Friday for a showcase of what the students have learned in camp. Ages 11-15 | Price: $125. Peformula (July 10-14, 1pm-3pm)-In the Earl Smith Strand Theatre’s musical theatre laboratory, young performers will focus entirely on music, dance, and drama, discovering the formulas for performing success! The week-long camp will yield a Saturday performance on The Strand stage. Tuition price includes attendance to the Saturday performance and a Performula t-shirt. Performance is Saturday, July 15 @ 12pm. Ages: 6-12 | Price: $150

TUE JULY 11 – KENNESAW BUSINESS ASSOCIATION LUNCHEON – Join KBA members for networking and hear productivity strategist Wendy Ellin speak. JUL 10-14 SPEED & AGILITY CAMP JUL 18-20 This summer Acworth Parks and Rec is hosting a Speed and Agility Camp and a Kid’s Football Camp. Both camps are extremely affordable. WED JULY 12 – FREE SPAGHETTI DINNER – Sardis Baptist Church is hosting a free Spaghetti Dinner the first and third Wednesdays of both June and July. The community is welcome to enjoy dinner from 5:45-6:45 and invited to stay for Bible Study at 7:00 pm (for both adults and children). SAT JUL 15 – RAILROAD RENDEZVOUS – Railroad Rendezvous is scheduled from 9:30am until 5pm rain or shine. There will be a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including model train layouts, railroad-themed activities, and crafts. The event will feature live music by local bluegrass musicians. MON-FRI JUL 17-21 – BRICK CAMP FOR LEGO LOVERS – 9am-Noon at Kennesaw First Baptist Church, 2958 N. Main Street, Kennesaw. Cost is $75.00. Family Fun Events – Oct 6-10

chalktoberfestSAT-SUN OCT 8-9 CHALKTOBERFEST – on the Square in Marietta.  Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art  presents its annual Chalktoberfest that takes place around the Marietta Square and down Atlanta Street to the museum. This year, the Chalktoberfest theme is “Old Masters” and will feature over 80 contracted, professional chalk artists from around the US, Mexico and Canada. Artists will draw in front of spectators during both dates from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to MCMA is free for the duration of the festival.
On Saturday, Oct. 8th, Chalktoberfest includes their annual Craft Beer Festival in conjunction with the Chalk Festival.  This Craft Beer Festival allows visitors to walk around and enjoy the Chalk Art while drinking samples. Chalktoberfest will feature an after hours concert in the Park with live music by A1A the Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band starting at 6:00pm.  Check the Chalktoberfest Website for the purchase of concert tables.
On Sunday, Oct. 9th, Chalktoberfest will bring in their Creative Kids craft-making section 1:00pm – 5:00pm, geared toward children of all ages – and host their non-professional Chalk Competition with Youth, Teen, School, and Adult Divisions.  Competition starts at 10:00am.  Winners announced at 3:00pm.  The Professional Chalk area will be available to view until 8:00pm Sunday night.

THU-SUN OCT 6-16 – “HAMLET” – at Theatre in the Square, Marietta. The show, directed by Emil Thomas, is set in a contemporary world.‘I am excited to be bringing a contemporary version of Hamlet to Marietta,’ says Thomas. ‘I think it will put a new twist on the play and really entertain’. FRI OCT 7 – MARIETTA SQUARE ART WALK – Enjoy the fall season with colorful works of art at the square. This is a self guided tour from 5-9pm. Visit the art galleries, museums, boutiques and restaurants!

FRI-SAT OCT 7-8 – ALLATOONA BOOK FESTIVAL – Award-winning author Janisse Ray will keynote the Allatoona Book Festival at the Roberts Community Center in Acworth which will include speakers, panels and workshops featuring area authors specializing in a variety of genres. Saturday includes a full day of workshops, panels and speakers starting at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast hosted by Acworth Tourism. The event is sponsored by the Acworth Cultural Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.

img_2924FRI-SUN OCT 7-9 – “ON THE RADIO” PERFORMANCE – Presented by CCEPA (Pebblebrook’s ComPA). Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. Show times: Fri. and Sat. at 7:30pm, Sun. at 3:30pm. Join us for a high-energy, non-stop hour of fun recalling the great hits of the past featuring the 24 talented singers, dancers, and actors of CCCEPA’s premier musical theatre troupe, ComPAny 2017. In addition to a whole section of jazz standards, this year’s show features many of your favorite pop songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. SAT OCT 8 – TIM CRUNK MEMORIAL 5K – The event starts at 8AM with a 1 Mile Fun Run for Kids beginning at 9AM. Registration begins at 7AM.  The course is spread out around Cedarcrest Church and includes running through neighborhoods bordering Lake Allatoona. Parking at Cedarcrest Church, 4600 Cobb Parkway, Acworth. Register online at www.cdedarcrestchurch.com/tim-crunk. Funds raised are used to provide schools and educators with the training, supplies, and support they need to create a successful environment for hundreds of students around Haiti.

SAT OCT 8 – MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS DAY – Calling for volunteers of all ages to come out and assist as we maintain Hill Park. Hill Park is a pretty little pocket park that was transformed from a once vacant lot just a few blocks off the northeast corner of Historic Marietta Square. Please arrive by 8:30am.
