SMOKE ON THE LAKE BBQ FESTIVAL

The Barbecue season kicks off the year with one of the first competitions in north Georgia. Over 30 teams will fill up Cauble Park in downtown Acworth on Friday May 12, from 5:00 p.m., to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday May 13, from 10:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and free parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running Friday night for the concert and fireworks and all day Saturday. Cauble Park and Lake Acworth has to be one of the most beautiful venues in our area – what better place to hold a family friendly backyard, BBQ competition.

You can smell the North Cobb Rotary Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival from miles around.  This event is in its eighth year offering lots of cash and prizes for the BBQ competition, the Lord of the Wings and the People’s Choice.  Over 8,000 people are expected to visit!

The best Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, Sons of Sailors takes the stage on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., for the LGE Community Credit Union Concert Under the Stars. All ages will enjoy this show as they will be playing all your favorite Parrot Head songs. Fireworks will finish the night – shot over beautiful Lake Acworth.  General Admission is free on Friday night and tables of six can be purchased for $100, price includes your table and six chairs for the whole crew. Inflatables will be in place for kids of all ages. Slide down a giant 24-foot inflatable slide, jump on a huge obstacle course, shoot hoops in the bouncy basketball jumpy and others. Face painting will be available as well.

Visit the beer and wine tent as adult beverages will be available for the concert Friday night and Saturday during the BBQ competition.
Lord of the Wings and People’s Choice Pork BBQ Competitions are judged by the Public

These two competitions have the largest direct impact on our community. The funds raised thru taster tickets sold to the public are used for multiple Rotary charity efforts. Your support is highly encouraged and needed – and it’s fun!

Lord of the Wings: Take part in the crowning of the Lord of the Wings Competition on Friday night as cook teams cook up their best recipe of the good old chicken wing!

People’s Choice Award: Come enjoy barbecue you can’t buy at any old store and help us decide who makes the best backyard BBQ Pork around. For a nominal charge you can purchase tastes of all the backyard teams competing in the competition all day on Saturday.
Admission:    Parking downtown, shuttles and event admission are all FREE.

More than 30 teams will fill Cauble Park on Lake Acworth, Friday May 9, from 6:00 p.m., to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday May 10, from 10:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and free parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running bothand all day Saturday.

Pro and backyard teams compete for more $10,000 in cash and prizes. Pro teams will compete for the piles of cash up for grabs to see who takes the title as the Grand Champion and Backyard cook teams are competing for their shot at four different Primo Grills.

Concert goersSuperior Plumbing is presenting the event which kicks off with a free concert and fireworks in conjunction with the Acworth Business Association and the City of Acworth on Friday May 9, The Mustangs will play all your favorites on the Day’s Chevrolet Concert Stage at 8:00 p.m. Afterwards an awesome display of Fireworks for the whole family! Reserved tables that seat six can be purchased for $75. Teams will compete on Friday night to see who will be crowned the Tip Top Foods Lord of the Wings Champion. This is judged by patrons of the concert Friday night, so come hungry.   

Acworth Opry – Saturday, September 21!

acworth_beach_cauble_park_gazeboThe City of Acworth and 41 Management Productions is proud to present the Acworth Opry at Cauble Park on Saturday, September 21 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Live music performed by local bluegrass and country groups will be played from the Gazebo.This is a free event! Bring your family, friends and chairs or blankets and enjoy great bluegrass music, friendly folks and lots of fun!

NCHS Warrior Way 5K – Sept. 21

Support North Cobb High School Cross Country Team and Acworth’s Cauble Park

Be a part of the tradition of excellence! Join us for the 5th Annual North Cobb High School Warrior Way 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 21st. The Warrior Way begins at 7:30 am at Cauble Park, Acworth Beach, and runs through shaded, historic Acworth neighborhoods, ending back at the beach. The 1K Fun Run starts at 8:30 in Cauble Park. All proceeds benefit NCHS Cross Country and Cauble Park. You can register for the race by going to www.active.com or by going to http://www.northcobbcrosscountry.com/ forms.html and printing a registration form that you can mail. Forms are also available at the Admin office at NCHS. Take the challenge, and come out to run a 5K the Warrior Way!
