strawberriesFRIDAYS: ACWORTH FARMER’S MARKET – Every Friday morning starting April 8 and ending October 28. The market is located in Historic Downtown Acworth in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking Lot on the north end of Main Street. Market customers will have a wide variety of garden ripe Georgia grown vegetables, eggs, cheese, bedding plants, fresh baked bread, pies, cakes, honey and jams to choose from each week. This year’s market will be bigger and better than previous years and shoppers won’t believe the selection of home grown goodies! The market is located in Historic Downtown Acworth in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking Lot on the north end of Main Street.

Celebrate the Catch The Wave exhibit of the Coca-Cola Company and Mason Fine Arts Exhibit – contemporary history through the eyes of Coca-Cola and enjoy the sounds of Douglas Cameron playing hits of the Big Band Era and swing.  Admission is $10; Members free.  Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.  Call 770-528-1444.

concertFRI APR 29 GLOVER PARK CONCERT SERIES 8:00 pm.  This season’s series kicks off with Still Swinging, Big Band music.  The event is free, however tables are available to rent. Table reservations are taken on a first come basis (and will sell out quickly) on the first working day of each month beginning at 8:00 a.m. www.mariettaga.gov/concerts. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park. Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

SAT APR 30 – NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Marietta Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Marietta Police Department at 240 Lemon St Marietta, Ga 30060.  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.  This is also being hosted by the Kennesaw Police Department and Acworth Police Department at their respective stations.

SAT APR 30 – AGING BY DESIGN SUMMIT AND EXPO – 9am-2pm at Roswell Street Baptist Church. Featuring keynote speakers, Coach Vince and Barbara Dooley. Free health screening from 10am-2pm. Early registration at any Cobb County Senior Center is $5 until Friday April 22nd. After deadline is $10 per person.

SOLD OUT!! SAT APR 30 Georgia Symphony Orchestra 8:00 pm.  The final concert of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra’s 65th Anniversary Season will be a presentation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Guest conductor Duilio Dobrin is the third and final candidate in the organization’s search for its new music director. The concert will be held at The Marietta Performing Arts Center located at 1171Whitlock Avenue, adjacent to Marietta High School in Marietta. Tickets are $20-$30. SAT APR 30 – CLASSIC CAR CRUISE NIGHT –  The city of Acworth will host a Classic Car Cruise from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Acworth.  The Lake City Cruisers partner with the city and the downtown Acworth merchants to hold these Classic Car Cruises. The event is free to the public. A $2 entry fee is requested for all vehicles in the cruise.  All proceeds go to the Horizon Field, an all-inclusive special needs sports facility in Acworth. SAT APR 30 – COMPLIMENTARY MOVIE FOR MILITARY FAMILIES – The Think Melissa Team is honored to help celebrate our current and past military families with a COMPLIMENTARY movie event, in honor of April being the Month of the Military Child. All military (active, veterans, National Guard and Reserves) families are welcome to attend. We are working with the Georgia National Guard Family Program and Silverton Mortgage, to host this event. Art lovers enjoy an evening stroll through the charming streets of Marietta Square during this free, self-guided tour featuring local art and live music. Art Walk is currently accepting applications. Oklahoma! at Jennie T. SAT MAY 2 – CEMETERY CLEAN UP – The Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Commission is hosting a clean-up and beautification day calleThe cemetery is located at Main and Cemetery Streets downtown.  Cleaning materials (except gloves) will be supplied.  Free lunch and drinks as well as live entertainment are also provided.  All are welcomed to come and participate. If cancelled due to rain, the event will be held on May 16.

SAT MAY 2 Marietta Civil War Hospitals Walking Tour, hosted by Marietta Museum of History. Join noted Civil War Historian, Brad Quinlin on a tour of the Marietta Square like you have never before experienced.  Step back in time to what Marietta was like over 150 years ago.  Explore the Square when it was occupied first by the Confederate and then the Union Armies.  Learn about the buildings that became hospitals, the businesses that supplied the armies, and the citizens who lived during these dramatic events. Cost: $15 per ticket. Where: Tours begin at the Marietta Museum of History. When: Saturday, May 2 from 2-3:30 p.m.

SAT MAY 2 – OUTDOOR MOVIE – Kennesaw Parks & Recreation announces the return of its free Outdoor Movie Series at Swift-Cantrell Park with The Book of Life. The 2015 series is presented by WellStar. Arrive at 6 p.m. for pre-movie entertainment, giveaways and outdoor fun. Moviegoers should bring a blanket or low-back chairs. SAT MAY 2 – MAVERICK 5K – The McClure Middle School Foundation is excited to announce our 1st annual Maverick 5K! Enjoy an exhilarating, chip timed, 5K run or 1 mile walk through the track & trails of Kennesaw Mountain High School (KMHS). Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. runnerSAT MAY 2 – POKER RUN – Please join us for our first ever Poker Run, which is being held to help combat PTSD by raising funds for Service Dogs for Warriors. Registration starts at 8 AM to 10 AM at North Star Church at 3413 Blue Springs Rd., Kennesaw. Entry fee is $25 per bike and $10 for a passenger. SAT&SUN May 2-3 MAY-RETTA Daze Arts & Craft Festival hosted by Marietta Parks and Recreation. MARIETTA – More than 100 local and area artists and craftspeople will display and sell their paintings, pottery, jewelry, woodwork, glass, floral designs and much more at the annual festival. The festival will be held Saturday, May 2nd from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, May 3rd from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and there is free parking available in the Cobb County parking garage.

MON MAY 4 – ABA GOLF TOURNAMENT – The ABA is set to have the Ft. Lauderdale Scramble start at 9 a.m. at the beautiful Bentwater Golf Club. Registration for golfers is $100 or $400 for each foursome. Includes greens fees, carts, goodie bags, breakfast and snacks, lunch and a silent auction at the conclusion of the round of golf. Harvest-vegetablesMON MAY 4 till FALL FARMER’S MARKET AND FOOD TRUCK NIGHT Mondays just got better in Kennesaw as  the Farmer’s Market will move to Monday nights combining the Market with Food Truck Mondays at the Depot in downtown Kennesaw. The two events will coincide each Monday starting May 4th and will continue every Monday night through the fall. The event times are staggered so that those wanting to get in and out of the Farmer’s Market without visiting the Food Trucks will be able to do so, while those looking to attend both events will be accommodated as well. The Farmer’s Market will run from 3 pm to 7 pm and the Food Trucks will operate from 6 pm to 9 pm.

SAT APR 27 Marietta Square Artists Market: Where All the Arts Come Alive! The Marietta Square Artists Market is excited to begin its 3rd annual market season, opening April 13th, 2013.  This year, the market will highlight vendors of all the Arts from painting, printmaking, digital art, and sculpture to ceramics, jewelry, installation art, and more!  The Artists Market is a juried, open-air market located on Mill Street between Church Street and the railroad tracks, just across from the Marietta Square Farmers Market.Visit the Marietta Square Artists Market every 2nd and 4th Saturday from April to November, 9:00am to 2:00pm, rain or shine. All fine artists are encouraged to apply! SUN APR 28 3-5 SPRING FESTIVAL Kennesaw United Methodist Church invites our community to bring a picnic blanket, your family, friends and neighbors and join them on the front lawn of the church on Sunday, April 28 for an afternoon of Musical Entertainment, Games, Food and Fun.  Music will be all styles including Choral, Praise/Worship, Traditional Rock Band and Handbells.  The church is located at 1801 Ben King Rd., Kennesaw, 30144.  If it rains we will move inside to the Christian Activities Center at the Church.  This event is FREE and open to everyone.

SUN, APR 28th “Taste of Marietta” (11am-7pm) The entire Square will be closed. We’re expecting 60-70 restaurants and will have Bubba Burger Kid’s Alley and Sports Corner sponsored by Sports Radio 790 the Zone featuring the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Thrashers and more.
