History buffs will enjoy honoring the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with the Marietta Museum of History. Civil War activities will be announced soon.

On September 21, the Marietta Museum of History presents Marietta StreetFest, a one-day event with a top-notch Arts, Crafts & Antiques Market, the Hubcaps and History Classic Car Show, presented by Wickham Services, the popular Jewelry Row and a chance to visit the delightful neighborhood restaurants, shops and historic sites found around the Square. This year, the festival features a new layout for even better perusing. It’s all the fun a kid could ask for, and it’s even larger this year. Most activities are free, but some may require a fee. For adults looking for their next favorite piece of jewelry, a visit to Jewelry Row will offer more than 15 booths filled with various styles and price ranges.

This year, Marietta StreetFest is thrilled to welcome back the Marietta Grassroots Music Festival, featuring bands and singer/songwriters from throughout the metro area who will perform original music. Many bands and solo performers will create an entertaining afternoon of music of varying genres for listeners who can bring along blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic for a special afternoon and evening experience. Marietta Grassroots provides local musicians a chance to perform in front of larger crowds to gain more exposure. It was founded in 2009 as an outreach program to provide safe, family friendly events and activities with a special focus on showcasing local talent from Marietta and the surrounding communities. The Marietta Grassroots Music Festival is looking for musicians. Interested parties should visit www.mariettagrassroots.org to find out how to get involved.

Visitors the day of StreetFest will also receive free admission to the Marietta Museum of History.

The Motown Sound at the Strand

marquee_pointPrepare to get your groove on at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre this summer, as its popular Motown show is returning July 4- July 14! This year’s show, entitled The Motown Sound is sure to have audiences’ toes tapping, fingers snapping, and feel-good nostalgia flowing.

“This will be our third year to produce a Motown show,” Executive Director Earl Reece explains. “After our first production, we knew that everyone agreed with us that Motown music is truly universal and the music of America.  It started in 1957 with the talented Berry Gordy, and the music is still loved and enjoyed today.” Earl continues, “The week of July 4 is the perfect time to celebrate our country and the music that our country loves.  The Motown Sound is ninety minutes of non-stop energy, excitement, and fun.  It is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser!”

Following the huge success of last year’s show Mo’ Motown, The Motown Sound whisks audiences back to the 1960s with the feel-good hits of the much-celebrated Motown era.  Audiences are sure to enjoy the big hair, the colorful fashions, and the soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder, Martha & the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and Gladys Knight & The Pips in this high-energy, high-excitement musical revue.

The Motown Sound will be directed by Earl Reece with Assistant Director Catherine Rhodes.

Tickets are $25 and assigned seating. The Motown Sound will run July 4@ 7pm, July 5 & 6 @8pm, July 7 @ 3pm, July 12 & 13 @ 8pm, and July 14 @ 3pm.
