It’s FAIR time. North Georgia State Fair Starts Thursday, Sept 21.

GET READY TO SLIDE AT SUPERIOR PLUMBING NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR

Hey Georgia! Get ready to slide into some mega size fun! The Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair is proud to add the mega slide to our already outstanding James H. Drew Exposition midway. Before being acquired by the Drew Expositions, the Mega Slide spent many years at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, N.Y. The slide has been completely refurbished top to bottom with a colorful new paint job (fun insider fact: Yellow paint keeps the slide cool, even more so than white!). At fifty feet high and rippling out an impressive one hundred and seventy feet, the yellow and green mega slide will be one of the most iconic structures at the North Georgia State Fair. With wavy lengths of grooved, galvanized metal over a steel scaffolding support, the newest ride at Jim R. Miller Park will have everyone talking.

The first giant slide made its appearance at a state fair in Minnesota in 1968. Since then, generations of families have enjoyed this oversized attraction. However, they have become increasingly rare, with less than 10 giant slides operating in the U.S. Drew Expositions owner, Jimmy Drew, says “We are thrilled to bring the iconic mega slide to the North Georgia State Fair. We are always looking for new ways to wow our patrons, so we look for those wow attractions like the Wildcat Rollercoaster, the Georgia Mountain Lift, and now, the Mega Slide”.

Fair Manager, Tod Miller adds, “We are so thankful to Drew Expositions for selecting the North Georgia State Fair to be the new home of the Mega Slide. It is such a classic fair attraction and everyone ages three to ninety-three, loves it. We know it is sure to become a new family tradition”.

Paws in the Park

9-17-12_064Responsible dog ownership will be the focus of the Dreamland Pet Memorial Center Paws in the Park Kennesaw free interactive event. The 3rd annual presentation of the event will take place on Saturday, September 21, 9 am – noon, rain-or-shine, at Swift-Cantrell Park. It is designed to promote good behavior when walking dogs in public areas and to remind owners of the importance of proper waste disposal.

The event is co-hosted by Keep Kennesaw Beautiful and the Georgia K9 National Training Center and will feature service dog demonstrations as well as exhibits by local businesses focused on pet feeding, obedience, and adoption as well as other related services.  Free samples of pet foods and products and discount offers for services will be available.

“Dog owners sometimes need to be reminded that pet waste contains harmful bacteria that can be picked up in storm water runoff and washed into drains, lakes, or ponds, causing significant water pollution,” said Keep Kennesaw Beautiful Director Miranda Jones. “This event celebrates the joy dogs bring to our lives, but also reminds us of our responsibility to pick up after our dogs and not spoil the environment for others.”

Primrose School of Kennesaw North will be inviting pet owners to take the Primrose Paw Print Pledge, vowing to scoop and properly discard waste and make the city safe and clean for everyone. For information about becoming an event sponsor or vendor, visit pawsintheparkkennesaw.com.

Marietta Streetfest and Fireworks – Saturday September 21.

4th OF JULY FIREWORKS AT 9 PM! ~ September 21, 2013

streetfestThe 22nd Marietta StreetFest returns to historic Marietta Square with arts & crafts, an antique car show, local musicians and plenty of fun for children. History buffs will enjoy honoring the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with the Marietta Museum of History. Civil War activities will be announced soon.

On September 21, the Marietta Museum of History presents Marietta StreetFest, a one-day event with a top-notch Arts, Crafts & Antiques Market, the Hubcaps and History Classic Car Show, presented by Wickham Services, the popular Jewelry Row and a chance to visit the delightful neighborhood restaurants, shops and historic sites found around the Square. This year, the festival features a new layout for even better perusing. Additionally, the City of Marietta’s July 4th Fireworks Display, postponed due to rain, will take place during the evening at Marietta StreetFest. Questions concerning the fireworks can be directed to City of Marietta at 770-794-5601 or www.marietta.gov.

Back for the second year, Marietta StreetFest includes the Extreme Children’s Zone with inflatables (require a small fee), make-n-take projects and interactive games. It’s all the fun a kid could ask for, and it’s even larger this year. Most activities are free, but some may require a fee. For adults looking for their next favorite piece of jewelry, a visit to Jewelry Row will offer more than 15 booths filled with various styles and price ranges.

This year, Marietta StreetFest is thrilled to welcome back the Marietta Grassroots Music Festival, featuring bands and singer/songwriters from throughout the metro area who will perform original music. Many bands and solo performers will create an entertaining afternoon of music of varying genres for listeners who can bring along blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic for a special afternoon and evening experience. Marietta Grassroots provides local musicians a chance to perform in front of larger crowds to gain more exposure. It was founded in 2009 as an outreach program to provide safe, family friendly events and activities with a special focus on showcasing local talent from Marietta and the surrounding communities. The Marietta Grassroots Music Festival is looking for musicians. Interested parties should visit www.mariettagrassroots.org to find out how to get involved.

Visitors the day of StreetFest will also receive free admission to the Marietta Museum of History.
