SAT-MON SEPT 3-5 – ART IN THE PARK – 10am-5pm each day, Welcoming nearly 175 artists from throughout the country as well as some talented local folks. With fine arts and crafts available for purchase, Art in the Park offers visitors a fun opportunity to meet and talk with the artists and even see some of the works in progress. SAT – SUN SEPT 10-11 – 5TH ANNUAL “PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT” – Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art will host the 5th Annual “Plein Air Paint Out.” From local homes and gardens to the dynamic architecture of downtown, Historic Marietta has many picturesque scenes perfect for plein air (outdoor) painting. Spend two days painting, then participate in a juried exhibition and art sale at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art. SAT SEPT 10 – SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT – The Dave Krache Foundation is bringing back its popular softball tournament this Fall at Al Bishop Softball Complex.  Registration is open and team captains can visit www.davekrache.com to register their team. Proceeds go to support The Dave Krache Foundation’s mission: Helping local kids in need play the sports they love.

SAT SEPT 10 – BBQ FUNDRAISER FOR YOUTH MUSEUM – Annual Barbecue in the Woods and Silent Auction from, 5pm-8pm at 649 Cheatham Hill Drive, Marietta, GA 30064.  Come enjoy live music while dining on delicious BBQ  provided by Sam Huff’s BBQ-1 (served until 7pm).  Tickets are $50/adult and $15/child (6-12).   Please call the museum at 770-427-2563 for tickets.

SAT SEPT 10 – HUMMINGBIRD BANDING EVENT – From 8-11am at Smith-Gilbert Gardens, hosted by the “Hummingbird Whisperer” Julia Elliott. The banding is a rain or shine event. SUN SEPT 11 – PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH’S SCOTTISH HERITAGE CELEBRATION – First Presbyterian Church Marietta will celebrate with the Kirkin of the Tartan at the worship service. This annual service begins in the Great Hall at 11:15 a.m. and features the North Atlanta Pipe and Drum Corps. First Presbyterian Church Marietta is located at 189 Church St, Marietta, GA 30060. Gala Playbill1SUN SEPT 11 – CHARITY GALA AND AUCTION – The Davis Direction Foundation, Inc will host their annual gala beginning at 6pm at the Marietta Performing Arts Center at Marietta High School. Proceeds will support “THE ZONE” – Cobb’s first recovery community organization. MON SEPT 12 – AMERICAN LEGION GOLF TOURNAMENT – Members of Post 304, invite our local golfers to join them in their Golf Tournament at Woodland Hill Golf Course. Shotgun start at 9:00 am. Check in and free range balls available at 8:00 a.m. All proceeds to benefit Veterans in Need of Assistance Fund. $100 per person or $400 per four person team. This Weekend in Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta

FRI-SAT SEPT 11-12 – COVERING THE BASES EVENT – The Acworth Police Department invites the community to participate in raising funds for Horizon Field. 100% of all proceeds go directly to Horizon Field. The 24 hourwalk-a-thon includes a host of family activities that include, an outdoor movie, bounce houses, dunk tank, midnight kickball tournament, and much much more! Begins Sept 11 at 6pm. SAT SEPT 12 – GREAT LAKE ALLATOONA CLEAN UP DAY – Help remove litter and debris from the shores of the lake. Sponsored by the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department, the Acworth Lake Authority, and the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority. This is a great project for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, community groups and anyone who wants to help keep our lakes clean. Taste of Kennesaw – Sat. Sept 6

Taste of Kennesaw logoWho doesn’t like to eat?

The Kennesaw Business Association and the City of Kennesaw invite you and your family to sample more than 30 local restaurants from the Kennesaw and Cobb County area.    This is a great way to sample all your favorite restaurants again and again! Come out on Saturday, September 6th from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM in downtown Kennesaw.

Admission is FREE and samples may be purchased from 1 dollar up to 4 dollars.  We are expecting more than 30 restaurants including The Melting Pot, Wing Stop, Williamson Bros. BBQ, Bruster’s Ice Cream, Big Shanty Smokehouse, Sandra’s Southern Tradition, Twisted Kitchen, Guston’s, Capo’s NY Pizza, Henrys, Zaxby’s, Marietta Fish Market, Copelands, Trackside Grill, Dogwood Terrace, 540 Kitchen & Social House, Mellow Mushroom, Carrabba’s & California Dreaming and more to tempt your taste buds and fill your senses.  Water and soft drinks will be sold by the North Cobb Warriors and the Kennesaw Mountain High School Mustangs.  Bring a canned good or two for the Shiloh UMC Food Pantry — their shelves are looking a bit bare.

The Main Street entertainment stage will have local entertainment all day and culminate with a concert at 6:00 p.m by The Mustangs.  Spend the last days of summer, listening to the sounds of music, and enjoying dinner with friends, neighbors and family.    The Taste of Kennesaw California Dreaming beer garden  will be under a huge tent with plenty of seating to sit back and wash down the delicious samples of food with an ice cold brew! It will also feature acoustic sounds of Scott Thompson from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

An enormous Kids Zone with interactive inflatables featuring the 33’ Shark Slide, Euro Bungee Quad Jump, 24’ Rockwall, 120’ Roller Coaster Obstacle Course, and much more will rise in two places at the Festival — on Main Street and at the Depot.

Check out the Depot Stage as four local high school seniors will compete in the Carrabba’s Culinary Cook-off at the Taste of Kennesaw for a $3,000 scholarship to the culinary school of choice.   The first two will go head to head from 10:30 a.m. – Noon and the second two from 12:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Taste of Kennesaw will benefit five local charities: Shop with a Mustang (Kennesaw Mountain High School); Shop with a Warrior (North Cobb High School); Shop with a Longhorn (Kell High School); MUST Ministries  and the Jerry Worthan Community Christmas Fund

FRI SEPT 5 – FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK 5-9 – ON THE Square in Marietta. over 30 artists showing their work in front of numerous merchants, restaurants and galleries hosting them. In Atherton Square, behind Cool Beans and Hemmingways, Art Walk presents Tavern in the gARTen, selling beer and wine. Additional musicians and performing artists will be found throughout the Square, hosted by participating merchants.  Ask an Art Walk Ambassador for a map and directions.  You can identify them by their distinct white Art Walk aprons. SAT SEPT 6 – MARIETTA MUTT STRUTT 10-3 Marietta First United Methodist Church 56 Whitlock Ave., SW, just off of the Marietta Square. The event is being held to support and raise awareness of Sweetwater Mission, a nonprofit that has been helping families with food, clothing, job training and more since 1968. Over 60 vendors will showcase their wares. We have something for everyone, from Harley Davidson and Luxury Cars to artisans and entertainment! Be sure to take Fido to the Bone Bar, where nearly 4000 pounds of dog treats are available for you to scoop – and they’re free! SAT SEPT 6 – YOUTH MUSEUM FUNDRAISER – The Youth Museum is holding its Twelfth Annual BBQ and Silent Auction on Saturday, September 6, 2014, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, celebrating over 44 years of serving students in Cobb County and the metro area. Delicious BBQ , live music , tours of the Museum’s current exhibit,  and a fabulous Silent Auction will be the highlights of the evening. Sam Heaton, Director of Cobb County Department of Public Safety, will be the emcee. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children under 12. The Taste of Kennesaw will be held on Saturday, September 7 in downtown Kennesaw, from 11am -8:00 pm.  Presented by The Kennesaw Business Association and the City of Kennesaw we expect about 20,000 visitors to enjoy delicious treats from over 40 participating restaurants.  This is a great way to sample all your favorite restaurants again and again!
The title Sponsor is Superior Plumbing and the event is produced by JRM Management Services. Admission to the Taste is FREE with food samples costing $1.00 to $4.00 each

The Main Street entertainment stage will have local entertainment all day and culminate with Sons of Sailor’s- A Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band in concert at 6:00 p.m.   Patrons will be able to grab an adult beverage from the California Dreaming Beer Garden, sample delicious food, and sit back and listen to great acoustic sounds of Scott Thompson from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m!!

A fanstastic end of the summer concert is planned at the depot – starting at 6:00 p.m. and featuring Sons of Sailors- A Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band Grab an adult beverage from the beer garden, sample delicious food, and sit back and listen to great music!!

CARRABBA’S CULINARY COOK-OFF:
Four local high school seniors will compete in the Carrabba’s Culinary Cook-off on the Depot stage at the Taste of Kennesaw for a $3,000 scholarship to the culinary school of choice.   The first two will go head to head from 10:30 a.m. – Noon and the second two from 12:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There will be a wide variety of children’s activities from a Quad Bungee, Rockwall, inflatable slides and much more.
