THU DEC 7 – HOLIDAY CANDLELIGHT SERVICE – Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home and Kennesaw Memorial Park invite the public to attend their Holiday Candlelight Service – an uplifting and meaningful way for families who have suffered a loss to start the holiday season. Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home will hold their service on Thursday, December 7 at 7:00 pm. Kennesaw Memorial Park will hold their service on Friday, December 8 at 7:00 pm.

SAT DEC 9 – BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – KENNESAW – Kennesaw Parks & Recreation is partnering with the Kennesaw-Acworth Optimist Club to host an “all-you-care-to-eat” pancake breakfast with Santa at the Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive. Attendees are encouraged to bring a camera. Two seating options are available: 8 to 9:15 a.m.; and 10 to 11:15 a.m. Advance tickets are only $6 per person, and can be purchased online at www.kennesaw-ga.gov/parks-and-recreation or at the Ben Robertson Community Center. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $8 per person (based on availability, space is limited). This is a fundraiser for the Great Gig Dance Ensemble, to help offset their expenses as they perform through out the Southeast. Kennesaw Tree Lighting
Join Mayor Easterling and other city officials at the Depot on Cherokee St (across from the museum) downtown Kennesaw on Tuesday, November 28 for the time-honored tradition of “flipping the switch” to illuminate the official Christmas tree. The free hour-long program begins at 6:00 pm and will include festive choral music and sing-along, light refreshments, and plenty of holiday cheer. Santa Arrives in Style

SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO MARIETTA –  NOV 30

The City of Marietta’s Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to host its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in conjunction with the arrival of Santa Claus on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Glover Park on the Marietta Square.

The fun begins at 4:00pm on Thursday, November 30 with performances by local school choruses. Santa makes his exciting grand entrance via a City of Marietta firetruck at 5:20pm followed by the lighting of the City’s Christmas Tree at 6pm. Additionally, children can meet Santa until 8pm that evening, as Santa must leave. to make his way back to the North Pole!
Families will now have the option of booking their Santa visit online (not available December 1st), while walkups will still be welcome. This year Santa will also be visiting with our furry friends, details are available on the website.

Starting December 1, 2017, the Santa Experience is brought to you by the Marietta Square Branding Project. Through their http://www.winterwonderlandmarietta.com/, you can book appointments with “The Classic Santa” or with “Santa.” While both Santas are the real deal, “Classic Santa” is the jolly fellow who has been on the Marietta Square for almost 20 years! “Santa” is the jolly fellow who may interact on a personal level with your children if you provide some details in the booking process.

Acworth’s Santa’s Arrival

It’s that special time again! The City of Acworth is excited to be partnering with NorthStar Church to make this year’s Santa’s Arrival the best yet!  Santa will be reaching downtown Acworth on Friday, December 1st.  Festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6:30 p.m. There will be a host of live performances until 9:00 p.m. to help Santa kickoff the holiday season.

Bring the entire family to hear Mayor Tommy Allegood read The Night Before Christmas and watch the lighting of the tree on Senator Russell Avenue. This year’s festivities will take place in front of Acworth City Hall and on the Plaza.

Enjoy pictures with Santa, eating candy canes with all his elves, and filling the streets with the holiday spirit. Plan on bringing your camera to capture the special moment, as there will be no photographer on-site. There will be train rides, marshmallow roasting, and hot chocolate.  Don’t forget to visit Frana Brown Park, where you can enjoy the beautiful Festival of Trees!

Kennesaw’s Santa Parade and Holiday Activities

The City of Kennesaw will usher in the holiday season on Saturday, December 2 with a Main Street parade featuring marching bands, decorated floats, vintage cars, colorfully-costumed characters, and Santa Claus himself.
The parade begins at noon near the intersection of Park Drive and Main Street, proceeding south and east down Main Street, marching past Cherokee Street toward Cemetery Street.
The celebration continues at Depot Park, 2828 Cherokee Street, until 6 pm with A Day with Santa presented by WellStar Health Systems. Activities include a snow playground, inflatables and amusements, kid’s crafts, visits with Santa, stage entertainment, and a holiday market full of gift ideas and unique merchandise. Food vendors will be onsite.
Event organizers are seeking vendors, as well as accepting entries for the parade at adaywithsanta.com. Entries will be judged and prizes will be awarded in several categories. Raminator to visit Scottish Rite Hospital – Nov 2nd.

On behalf of the Ram Truck brand, the Hall Brothers Racing team and monster truck Raminator are making a pit stop at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital on Thursday, November 2nd from 10:30AM – 11:30AM to brighten the day of patients. Raminator, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® record holder for the Fastest Speed for a Monster Truck, hitting a record speed of 99.10 miles per hour will make a special stop in the front parking circle of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital. Patients, families and hospital guests will be able to get an up close and personal look at the monster truck and meet its owners and operators – the Hall Brothers Racing Team.  The Hall Brothers will answer questions and sign autographs. FUN FALL FESTIVITES IN ACWORTH, MARIETTA!

Annual HarvestFest on the Marietta Square on Saturday, October 21st

Mark your calendars to attend the City of Marietta’s 41st Annual HarvestFest on the Historic Marietta Square on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 9am – 5pm.

Sponsored by Marietta’s Parks and Recreation Department, this annual festival full of activities for all ages.  It includes Halloween Happenings from 1pm-5pm which is an event for children ages 12 and younger and includes carnival games, kid-friendly activities, and a costume contest for pets and children 12 and under. The winners of the Scarecrows on the Square competition will be announced at 1:45pm.

The Harvest Square Festival will have exhibits including painting, pottery, woodworking, jewelry and many other types of crafts. Admission is free, and there will be games and activities for the entire family.

ACWORTH’S Halloween JamBOOree

You are in for a spooky good time at Acworth’s Halloween JamBOOree The event will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Logan Farm Park. For a minimal charge, each child can participate in many different carnival type games and activities where they can win candy and prizes. Be sure your kids wear their favorite costume as we have costume contests, broken up into age groups, going on throughout the event! There will also be a FREE hayride!

Parking available at Logan Farm Park (both the Administrative Office and Main Entrances), Roberts School, Rosenwald School, and the corner of Cherokee Street and Northside Drive.  There will be signage directing you up the trail to the event. FALL FESTIVAL OF FUN at Jim Miller Park

Cobb P.A.R.K.S. along with Cobb County Public Safety, SafeKids Cobb County and Cobb County 4-H are hosting the 18th Annual Fall Festival of Fun on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Jim Miller Park. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. This event will provide the children of Cobb County a safe alternative to the traditional Trick-or-Treat in their neighborhoods.

The festival will include arts and crafts, games, inflatable rides, police and fire activities, costume contests for kids and adults, coloring contests, a photo booth and other surprises. Parking, entrance to the park, games, candy and contests are free (there is a fee for concessions and inflatable rides). Come wearing your Halloween costume and be sure to bring a bag to carry all of your candy!

It’s FAIR time. North Georgia State Fair Starts Thursday, Sept 21.

GET READY TO SLIDE AT SUPERIOR PLUMBING NORTH GEORGIA STATE FAIR

Hey Georgia! Get ready to slide into some mega size fun! The Superior Plumbing North Georgia State Fair is proud to add the mega slide to our already outstanding James H. Drew Exposition midway. Before being acquired by the Drew Expositions, the Mega Slide spent many years at the Erie County Fair in Hamburg, N.Y. The slide has been completely refurbished top to bottom with a colorful new paint job (fun insider fact: Yellow paint keeps the slide cool, even more so than white!). At fifty feet high and rippling out an impressive one hundred and seventy feet, the yellow and green mega slide will be one of the most iconic structures at the North Georgia State Fair. With wavy lengths of grooved, galvanized metal over a steel scaffolding support, the newest ride at Jim R. Miller Park will have everyone talking.

The first giant slide made its appearance at a state fair in Minnesota in 1968. Since then, generations of families have enjoyed this oversized attraction. However, they have become increasingly rare, with less than 10 giant slides operating in the U.S. Drew Expositions owner, Jimmy Drew, says “We are thrilled to bring the iconic mega slide to the North Georgia State Fair. We are always looking for new ways to wow our patrons, so we look for those wow attractions like the Wildcat Rollercoaster, the Georgia Mountain Lift, and now, the Mega Slide”.

Fair Manager, Tod Miller adds, “We are so thankful to Drew Expositions for selecting the North Georgia State Fair to be the new home of the Mega Slide. It is such a classic fair attraction and everyone ages three to ninety-three, loves it. We know it is sure to become a new family tradition”.

FRI AUG 25 – REMEMBER WHEN CLUB EVENT – The Marietta Museum of History continues its popular monthly program, the Remember When Club.  The Club explores what life was like in Cobb County when Highway 41 was known as the 4 lane, everyday shopping was done on the Square and life was just a little bit simpler. This month we will be focusing on the drive-ins and movie theatres in and around Marietta. This event is held in the first Floor Virginia Tumlin Room at 10:30am. at the Marietta Museum of History, 1 Depot Street, Marietta, GA 30060 FREE but donations are greatly appreciated!  If you would like to tour the Museum before or after the event, the cost is $5 per person.

FRI AUG 25 – GLOVER PARK CONCERT – “Live Exchange Party Band” will be playing a variety of music. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park.  Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m.   Bring a picnic dinner (beer & wine is permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square. Items to be recycled such as computers, power tools, heavy metals, lawnmowers, cell phones, telephone chargers, power cables, fax machines, TVs, monitors, etc. There is a $10.00 requested donation per car load.  Additional fees for tv, computer monitor and paint cans. Comic and Toy Show at Kennesaw Mountain High School

COMIC AND TOY SHOW AT KENNESAW MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL

Saturday August 12; 10-5 pm

Kennesaw Mountain High School will host their third annual Kennesaw Comic and Toy Show Saturday, August 12 at the school’s Fine Arts Building.  The event will have vendors selling, buying and trading comics, cards, toys, action figures, GI Joes, original art, jewelry, vintage records, video games, books, and more.  In addition, there will trivia games, costume contests, card tournaments, discussion panels, special demonstrations, and a concession stand.

“Last year we had over 400 people attend, so we are hoping to grow even more this year” Carson Colenbaugh, senior on the Drama Leadership Team stated.  “I know a lot of my friends are excited about it.  It was so much fun last year!”
The event is a fund raiser for the school’s theater’s lighting and sound equipment.
“It’s a unique way for us to raise some money for our school and for the students and community to have the own little ‘Dragon Con’.” Added senior Nick Haddad.

“Last year, we had a wide range of vendors selling new and new items, as well as artists, and people promoting their websites and other events.  This year we have a special effects makeup session, and a cos play workshop.”  Noted the event coordinator and theatre director, Coy Dunn.

SAT AUG 12 – SHREDDING EVENT – Keep Kennesaw Beautiful (KKB) will host a community shredding event at the Kennesaw Public Works facility on 3080 Moon Station Road from 9 am – noon (or until the shred truck is filled). There will be absolutely NO glass, metal, or electronics accepted at this event – only personal documents for shredding. The event is free and open to all; donations to support KKB educational programs will be accepted. SAT AUG 12 – PROGRAM PALOOZA – Area residents are invited to attend Kennesaw Parks & Recreation’s ‘Program Palooza’ at the Ben Robertson Community Center from 10 am – 1 pm. All ages are welcome. Admission is free. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet program instructors, observe and participate in a variety of demonstrations, and learn all about dozens of new and exciting recreation activities that will be offered this fall — from sports, dance and fitness programs to arts & crafts and adult enrichment classes. SAT AUG 12 – COMIC AND TOY SHOW AT KMHS – Kennesaw Mountain High School will host their third annual Kennesaw Comic and Toy Show at the school’s Fine Arts Building.  The event will have vendors selling, buying and trading comics, cards, toys, action figures, GI Joes, original art, jewelry, vintage records, video games, books, and more.  In addition, there will trivia games, costume contests, card tournaments, discussion panels, special demonstrations, and a concession stand. SAT AUG 12 – 60TH MISS COBB COUNTY PAGEANT – Jennie T Anderson Theatre, Cobb County Civic Center, 7pm. Along with this years competition, past winners have been invited to grace the stage once again. MON-FRI JUL 10-14 – SUMMER THEATRE CAMPS AT THE STRAND – Theatre Intensive (July 10-14, 9am-12:30pm)-Great opportunity to get deeper into the ins and outs of theatre. A well-rounded student of the arts makes for a better performer — both offstage and on. Parents are invited to the last hour of class on Friday for a showcase of what the students have learned in camp. Ages 11-15 | Price: $125. Peformula (July 10-14, 1pm-3pm)-In the Earl Smith Strand Theatre’s musical theatre laboratory, young performers will focus entirely on music, dance, and drama, discovering the formulas for performing success! The week-long camp will yield a Saturday performance on The Strand stage. Tuition price includes attendance to the Saturday performance and a Performula t-shirt.
