Yes, it is true – Simpatico and Willie Rae’s have new owners. Micah and Katie  Pfister bring new energy and excitement to the Square with their culinary expertise. Along with Sterling Wharton, who brings his business acumen, the three (Sterling is Katie’s dad) have some wonderful ideas for changes to Simpatico’s menu and appearance.   Micah is a master chef, having graduated from Sullivan Culinary School and Katie is a Pastry Chef, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Sterling comes from the technology side of business.
To begin the changes, the three will move the favorite Simpatico menu items to Willie Rae’s menu and bring new menu ideas to Simpatico.
Micah, who has worked at the Dove Tail in New York, Empire State South and Spago, in Beaver Creek, CO, prefers to create everything house-made – that includes sauces, sausages and more.  He plans on using only local seasonal produce and products in creating menu items at Simpatico, and will be able to shop right out the front door at the Marietta Farmers Market.  The rest of the story is on page 3 of the February Marietta/Powder Springs paper at www.brightsidenews.com/marpsnews.html.

Red Cross Blood Drive

fp.nc On Friday, February 15, the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Acworth Beach House located in Cauble Park.  The Acworth Beach House is located at 4425 Beach St. Acworth, GA  30101.

The Red Cross is the nation’s largest blood provider, and supplies more than 120 hospitals and heath care facilities throughout the state.  Remember one donor could potentially save up to three lives!

The American Red Cross blood supply continues to be at an emergency level. Severe Winter Storm impacts blood donations. Donors needed to ensure blood inventory is replenished.

The recent winter storm that hit the Northeast has forced the cancellation of more than 160 American Red Cross blood drives in nine states, resulting in a shortfall of nearly 7,000 units of blood and platelets.
To date, blood drive cancellations have occurred in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
The Red Cross is encouraging blood donations to help areas hit by this storm. While all types are needed, the Red Cross urges those with blood types O negative, B negative and A negative to make a lifesaving appointment.

To schedule an appointment, call Jeff Chase at the Parks and Recreation Office at 770-917-1234 or email at jchase@acworth.org.

MCS District Elementary Choice Academies Drawings

MCS District Elementary Choice Academies
Random Drawing Scheduled – Feb. 15

MARIETTA, GA– Marietta City Schools (MCS) will hold Choice Academies random drawings Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 5 p.m. at the Central Administrative Offices located at 250 Howard Street in Marietta. The random drawings determine student placement for available West Side Elementary kindergarten seats, and wait lists for West Side kindergarten, second and fifth grade, and A.L. Burruss Elementary first grade for the 2013-2014 school year.

“Our random drawing selection process ensures equity and fairness of placements and wait list positions whenever Choice Academies enrollment requests exceed school or grade level capacities,” said Dayton Hibbs, MCS Associate Superintendent. “Applicants do not have to be present in order to be included in the drawing. Those not selected for open seats may choose to go on a wait list. Wait lists are viable through the initial days of the 2013-2014 school year.”

Each Choice Academies application has assigned a unique alphanumeric identifier. The random drawing utilizes a bingo-style rotary cage containing alphanumeric balls. A tally sheet tracks each corresponding applicant’s name that matches with the unique alphanumeric identifier on the Choice application, in the order in which matching balls are randomly drawn. The order in which the applicant’s number is drawn determines student placements and wait list positions for available Choice seats at each school.
