Run for Wounded Heroes 5K


Run for Wounded Heroes 5K is the fourth 5K in the Kennesaw Grand Prix Series, and takes place on Saturday, August 1 in downtown Kennesaw.  The race for adults and children benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. Same-day registration and packet pickup at Kennesaw First Baptist Church opens at 6:30 am; a one mile fun run for children starts at 7:30 am with the 5K race beginning at 8 am.  Price is $25 until July 23, $30 til July 30, and $35 on the day of the race – Aug 1.

Thanks to the 1700 runners who participated in the race last year. $20,000 dollars was donated to Wounded Warrior Project, and $1,000 to Kennesaw’s Veterans Luncheon. Over $75,000 has been donated to WWP in 5 years. You have made it very successful. We look forward to seeing everyone again.  Let’s make this 2,000 runners this year.

The race follows a fast, flat route through historic downtown Kennesaw and Swift-Cantrell Park and is fun for beginners and accomplished runners and walkers alike. The route is a USA Track and Field Certified course. Traffic control is coordinated by local law enforcement. The race is electronically timed for fast, accurate results. Race day refreshments are provided for all participants.

Registration is open now at and is available at the Kennesaw Big Peach Running Company location. All registered 5K participants will receive an official race shirt, runner/walker number, and goodie bag. A Strand Musical Revue
The Strand is celebrating its fifth annual Motown musical revue with fan favorite The Motown Sound in July 2015! With each passing year, the praise for the Motown revue grows, making each year a bigger smash hit that the last. With an extensive catalog of Motown hits to choose from, The Motown Sound whisks audiences back to the 1960s and 70s with the feel-good hits of the much celebrated Motown era.
Audiences are sure to enjoy the big hair, colorful fashions, and soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder, Martha & the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and Gladys Knight & The Pips in this high-energy, high-excitement musical revue that is unlike any other experience in the area.
The Motown Sound will run from through July 26th on Friday & Saturday nights at 8pm, with Sunday matinees at 3pm. Shows tend to sell out so secure your tickets fast!

Harvest-vegetablesFresh fruit, fresh vegetables, breads, plants and more are in abundance at our local Farmer’s Markets.  Nothing is better than fresh and local.  Several vendors are certified organic farms, while others are selling their home grown bounty for sale.

EVERY MONDAY – Kennesaw Food Truck Rally and Farmer’s Market at the Depot in downtown Kennesaw.  Farmer’s Market open from 3-7.  Food Trucks serving from 6-9.

EVERY FRIDAY ACWORTH FARMERS MARKET 7-12.  Located in the Acworth First Baptist Church Parking lot on Main St., Acworth.

SAT & SUN – MARIETTA FARMER’S MARKET. Takes up residence on North Park Square on Saturday and opens 9-12. And on Sundays on Mill Street starting at noon. Market customers have lots of variety to choose from including heirloom tomatoes, fruits and vegetables that are rarely, available from the grocery store. Plus lots of the staples such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, squash, beans, amazing cut flower arrangements, local honey, herbal soaps, whole grain breads, fudge pies, jelly, jam and preserves.

Family Fun Day at the Factory Church

The Factory Church is launching a new series on August 2nd called “Everything Must Change” and immediately after their 11:15am service (from approx 1pm to 3pm), the public is invited to a Family Fun Day that will include free food, inflatables, games for the kids and adults, giveaways and more!

The Factory Church is a church that’s about making disciples the other six days.  Our website is  We are located at 9872 Main Street (near the intersection of Highway 92 and Highway 5) in Woodstock and we have services at 9:15am and 11:15am.


Celebrate the Fourth of July all Weekend!

FRI JULY 3 KENNESAW’S FOURTH OF JULY – The City of Kennesaw’s Salute to America, Independence Day celebration will be held on Friday, July 3, and will feature FREE, high-energy live music and  talented entertainers, plus one of the biggest and brightest star-spangled firework displays in North Georgia. The event is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. in downtown Kennesaw. From 6 – 7:30 pm on the DEPARTUREfeature stage in Depot Park, the United States Air Force Band of the West’s Concert Band will perform. This 45 member ensemble of Air Force professional musicians have a music repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day, featuring classical and Broadway music as well as Sousa marches and popular hits. From 8 – 9:30 pm, DEPARTURE, arguably the best, most respected Journey tribute band in the nation, plays all the hits of the ‘80s rock super group. The Atlanta-based band was voted “Best Local Entertainer” in 2014 by Gwinnett Magazine. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., and will be visible from several locations throughout downtown Kennesaw.  This event is free.

flashbackSAT JULY 4 – ACWORTH’S FOURTH OF JULY, Let Freedom Ring Live music and fireworks at Cauble Park. Live music with the Shreeps from 4-5; Paul Hand Band will start at 5:15 p.m. leading up to headliners “FLASHBACK” at 8:00 p.m. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:40 p.m. Stay for more FLASHBACK until 11:00 pm. Admission to the concert is free; however tables are available for the July 4 concert. Tables are $50 each for City of Acworth residents and $70 for non-residents. With the table you get 6 chairs and one parking pass. This parking pass will allow you to park at Cauble Park as long as spots remain available. Parking at Cauble Park is by pass only on July 4 but you are not guaranteed a parking spot at Cauble Park with this pass so please plan on arriving early.

Grab your American flag, put on your red, white and blue, and celebrate America’s independence July 4, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. with an Independence Day parade and celebration on the Square, free live concerts, arts and crafts show, food, carnival games and Superior Plumbing fireworks finale. Throughout the day, more than 80,000 people are expected to celebrate on the Square with great food, fun activities, the best arts and crafts around and free entertainment from different local entertainers and even Universal Republic Nashville Records country star- David Fanning presented by 94.9 The Bull.  Plan on spending the day and enjoy shopping over 100 craft vendors, food concessions, a Kid’s Zone, concerts and fireworks.  Fireworks scheduled for 9:30 pm.

Go Skateboarding Day – June 21

goskateposter1Kennesaw Parks & Recreation and Ambush Board Company are partnering to host Go Skateboarding Day on Sunday, June 21 from noon to 4 pm at Kennesaw Skatepark.

Local rippers, veteran shredders, and spectators are invited to help celebrate the official holiday of skateboarding, Go Skateboarding Day, held every year on June 21. The free, public event this Sunday from 12 – 4 pm at Kennesaw Skatepark will feature open skate sessions, contests with cool prizes, giveaways, games, music, and food vending. Winners of a father-son and father-daughter best trick contest will be awarded a pair of $50 Ambush gift cards and two skateboard decks; and winners of the best trick contest on the skatepark’s impact section will receive a $100 Ambush gift card and skateboard deck. Pre-registration is not required to enter the contests.

Cobb County Well Represented at Miss Georgia Pageant

This is the 71sth anniversary celebration for the Miss Georgia Pageant

Once again Cobb County has amazing young women in Columbus – Patricia Ford, Miss Cobb County 2015, and  Tyler Reese Tritt, Miss Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen 2015. They arrived in Columbus today and will attend a meet and greet session at 4 pm, followed by a parade today.  Preliminary nights are June 17, 18, and 19 with the finals on June 20.

We have a goal for them to receive more cards and wishes of encouragement than any other contestants and we need your help.  Please send your card today!!!

PatriciaFamily1Miss Cobb County: Patricia Ford, age 21, a 2015 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Her parents are Ruby and Skip Ford and her brother Donny is also a graduate of Georgia Tech and attends the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta studying to become a physician.



Miss Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen: Tyler Reese Tritt, age 17, is a senior at Mount Paran Christian School.  Her parents are Theresa and Travis Tritt.  She enjoys the responsibility of driving both brothers to school each day as they also attend Mt. Paran.  They are Tristan and Torian.

The road ahead is bright for both Patricia and Tyler Reese.  We salute both of them for their outstanding year of service to the community.

We know all of our past winners of the Miss Cobb County title and our Miss Cobb Teen representatives have wonderful and special memories of their year on the Miss Georgia stage. We very much appreciate the fabulous job that each of you did representing Cobb County.

Spydercup is Going Down at Kennesaw Skate Park

Broadway Comes to Cobb County

SAT MAY 30 – SWEET TEA 5K – West Cobb Church is hosting the Sweet Tea 5K at 8:00am, which will occur on the beautiful 149 acre Still Family Farm, 5630 Macland Rd., Powder Springs, GA 30127. ALL proceeds will benefit local and international missions. The entire race will be off-pavement, and wind through farmland and beautiful woods. Registration is $25 through May 28 and $30 thereafter.
