Zach Seabaugh is on the Voice

Zach Seabaugh, The Voice“Are you Superman? You look like Superman and that’s not a 16-year-old’s voice. That’s Superman’s voice,” stated Adam Levine, one of the judges on NBC’s “The Voice” said to Zach Seabaugh at the end of his Blind Audition song on “The Voice” that aired September 22.

As a friend of the Seabaugh family, I have had the opportunity to stand on the sidelines and watch Zach Seabaugh grow and mature into an accomplished singer.  He started playing the guitar as a little kid and was introduced to Johnny Cash by his granddaddy.  He was five years old when a neighbor, Cheryl Berry, gave him a guitar at a garage sale.  The guitar was larger than he was. His dad would call and say “Come on, Zach is singing at our local coffee shop tonight” – he was about eight at the time. He has always been in our church choir at Marietta First United Methodist Church. The first time I saw Zach perform (outside of church) was at Hayes Elementary School in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – he was Charlie Bucket and in the fifth grade.

By ninth grade he was performing on stage at the Strand Theater in every musical Earl Reese put on – At Kennesaw Mountain High School, he was one of the lead singers in several of Coy Dunn’s productions.  It was exciting to sit in the audience and watch these productions.  In March of this year, Zach Seabaugh won the state champion in Boys Solo and was part of the state champion quartet also including Jesse Connor, Dylan Kalafut, and Adam Stegall as Kennesaw Mountain High School’s Literary Team won the State 6A Competition. Choosing performing over football, last Spring Zach hung up his football gear and jumped into dance lessons at Bravo Dance Centre to round out his performing abilities.

The experience of performing in front of live audiences gave Zach the confidence and stage presence he evidenced in his Blind Audition on “The Voice”, September 22. Three chairs turned and Zach, being a country singer at heart, picked Team Blake.  His next appearance on the Voice will be sometime during the Battle Rounds which start the week of October 12.  You will have to watch every episode since no one knows when he will appear.

On the home front, Zach will be performing at this weekend’s Chalk Festival in Glover Park on the Square in Marietta.  His acoustic guitar performance will start at 6:00 pm and last about an hour.   This event is FREE.

Zach’s Blind Audition song is available on iTunes at http://apple.co/1Wl02yz for purchase — And if you haven’t seen his performance on the Voice — look for Episode 2 on NBC.com.  You can follow Zach on Twitter and Instagram @ZachSeabaugh and on FB at Zach Seabaugh Music. Zach is the son of Devan and Beth Seabaugh and the brother of Heidi, Abby, Olivia, and Sophia.

Volunteers Needed for Lake Acworth Cleanup

Volunteers Needed for Lake Acworth Cleanup

On Sunday, Surfrider – in conjunction with its Georgia chapter – is targeting Lake Acworth for a tidying – one of 12 coastal areas nationwide selected this year – with volunteers checking-in beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the Gazebo in Cauble Park.HAMPTON3

The Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project is an eight year-old national partnership between the Surfrider Foundation and Barefoot Wine. Every year a dozen beaches are targeted nationwide for a major, full day clean-up (three weeks ago in Huntington Beach, California, we had nearly 250 volunteers.  Since its inception, the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project has cleaned more than 135 beaches, engaged more than 12,000 community volunteers, and removed more than 14 tons of trash.

logoLast weekend we had more than 60 community volunteers who collected 223 pounds of garbage, and 25.5 pounds of recycling, from Hampton’s North Beach. (That’s in addition to 15 tons of debris picked-up from American beaches since the project started.)  We’re hoping for a great turnout in Acworth and to, potentially, eclipse Hampton’s results for pounds of garbage collecte
