Pokemon Art on the Square: August 5 and More.

FRI. AUG 5 Marietta Square Art Walk continues August 5th with a new adventure.  Art Walk visitors can “catch ‘em all” (Pokémon ART, that is) throughout the The Marietta Square. Artists will hide small Pokémon themed works throughout town for visitors to find and take home! We’ll post clues about their location on our Facebook page throughout the evening. Finders, Keepers!!! Downtown Kennesaw.  The race for adults and children benefits the Disabled American Veterans, United Military Care, KSU”s veterans scholarship fund, and help sponsor the City of Kennesaw’s Veterans Day luncheon. Same-day registration and packet pickup at Kennesaw First Baptist Church opens at 6:30 am; a one-mile fun run for children starts at 7:30 am with the 5K race beginning at 8 am. SAT AUG 6 – BOATING SAFETY CLASSES – The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department is proud to partner with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22 to offer Boating Safety Classes at Roberts School Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This is a NASBLA certified boating safety course.  This is an entry level class aimed at the inland boater. Table reservations are taken on a first come basis (and will sell out quickly) on the first working day of each month beginning at 8:00 a.m. www.mariettaga.gov/concerts. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park. Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

SAT APR 30 – NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Marietta Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Marietta Police Department at 240 Lemon St Marietta, Ga 30060.  (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)  The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.  This is also being hosted by the Kennesaw Police Department and Acworth Police Department at their respective stations.

SOLD OUT!! SAT APR 30 Georgia Symphony Orchestra 8:00 pm.  The final concert of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra’s 65th Anniversary Season will be a presentation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Guest conductor Duilio Dobrin is the third and final candidate in the organization’s search for its new music director. SAT APR 30 – CLASSIC CAR CRUISE NIGHT –  The city of Acworth will host a Classic Car Cruise from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Acworth.  The Lake City Cruisers partner with the city and the downtown Acworth merchants to hold these Classic Car Cruises. The event is free to the public. A $2 entry fee is requested for all vehicles in the cruise.  All proceeds go to the Horizon Field, an all-inclusive special needs sports facility in Acworth. The Strand is celebrating its fifth annual Motown musical revue with fan favorite The Motown Sound in July 2015! SAT OCT 11 – HILLGROVE NJROTC 5K – Hillgrove NJROTC will be hosting a fundraising run, a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Shepherd’s Men. The race will begin at 8:00 a.m., and will be held on the campus of Hillgrove High School. This Peachtree Road Race qualifier (# GA14067WC) Early registration, up to Sept. 28, is $20, late registration, from Sept. 29- Oct. 5, is $25, and race day.

The Youth Museum’s Fundraiser – Sept 6.

AUCTION ItemsThe Youth Museum is holding its Twelfth Annual BBQ and Silent Auction on Saturday, September 6, 2014, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, celebrating over 44 years of serving students in Cobb County and the metro area. Delicious BBQ by Sam Huff’s BBQ-1, live music by Old Mill Road Band, tours of the Museum’s current exhibit, “America’s Pathways to Independence” and a fabulous Silent Auction will be the highlights of the evening. Sam Heaton, Director of Cobb County Department of Public Safety, will be the emcee.
