hosted by the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild

quilt1Georgia sewists have been busy for months making their quilted creations and the time to honor them and their historic craft is almost here. Three hundred and sixty Georgia quilts will be on display in Georgia Celebrates Quilts®, the 14th judged and juried quilt show hosted by the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild. The show is June 14-16 at the Cobb County Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta, Georgia.

The Civic Center will be alive with color as these handmade quilts of every style are exhibited. $4,000 in cash prizes will be awarded for Best of Show and First Place in thirteen judged catgegories, ranging from traditional bed covers to modern art wall hangings and miniature pieces in exquisite detail. Even quilts made by children under 12 will be there.

A highlight of this show is the stunning quilt made by the Guild members to be raffled off as a fund raising project. The large quilt, based on a pattern, Stars and Sprigs by Kim McLean, features bright contemporary fabrics in a traditional Sawtooth Star pattern surrounded by elaborately appliqued leaf borders.

The event will also feature vendors, quilting demonstrations, raffles, a silent auction and quilt appraisals. Over 3000 are expected to attend the 3 day event. Marietta Mayor Pro-Tem Annette Lewis will cut a ceremonial ribbon opening the show at 10 AM Friday, June 14. Show hours are Friday and Saturday, 10 AM – 6 PM and Sunday 10 AM – 5 PM. Admission at the door is $10. More information at
