The last mad dash of summer ending is evidenced in the number of events on the calendar between now and August 7 (FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL).  Check out the listings below and see what tickles your fancy.  Enjoy these last few days with your kids, do family fun things.

JULY  29 – DINNER AT THE DEPOT 5-8 Join your friends and neighbors for Dinner at the Depot on Cherokee St., Kennesaw,  where you can select from a wide variety of food, some thing for everyone.  If you don’t have time to join us on Monday night, if you are close by- consider dropping in to place an order to go! All food trucks offer take out supplies so you can take dinner home with you.  Much better than fast food drive thru food!

FRI AUG 2 Senior Yah-Yah Club Yard Sale 8:00 am-4:00 pm. The Acworth Senior Yah-Yah Club will be holding a yard sale on Friday, August 2 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Roberts School Community and Education Center located on School St. in Downtown Acworth. First Friday Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour to Marietta’s diverse art scene.  Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques host artists within their stores and are open 5pm-9pm.  Look for an official Art Walk banner in the window to identify the

This month is entitled Oh, The Places You’ll Go! *reprise* Back by popular demand, this show offers unique perspectives on the “places we go.”  From foreign travel, to the spots we frequent in our own backyard, you will be inspired by the trip.A great date night, family night or friends’ night out, an evening of contemporary fine art, live jazz and a little wine is sure to be a hit for all.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 2nd   “First Friday at Avery Gallery” (5pm-9pm)   Avery Gallery is proud to present the art of VENYI Kossi Dégboè (Frédéric) from the country of Togo in West Africa for the August 2013 Artwalk!  Also presented will be works by  Henry Porter, William Pinkney, John Truit, and more.We look forward to seeing you . FRI. AUG 2 – First Friday Art Walk at 2 Rules Fine Art features Stanford Ashcroft who paints with acrylics and oils on canvas, using his distinctive technique of applying paint onto the canvas with razor blades.  This gives his artworks a very unique texture.

FRI AUG 2 MOVIE IN THE PARK Marietta Parks and Recreation will be showing The Croods on Friday August 2.  Kids activities begin at 6 pm.  Movie starts shortly after dark.  Marietta Lions will be selling concessions.  The event is at Laurel Park, 151 Manning Rd. Marietta.  FREE admission.

FRI AUG 2 – BACK TO SCHOOL FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT 7-11 pm. The City of Acworth along the Acworth Business Association will be holding a FREE “Back to School Family Movie Night” on Friday, August 2.  Come out to the football fields at the Acworth Sports Complex after a long week and watch The Croods.   The gates will open at 7:00 p.m. and the movie will begin at dark.  So bring out your lawn chairs, a blanket and cooler…a great night is guaranteed!  Concessions will be available. SATURDAY, AUGUST 3rd “Huey Helicopter Rides” Ath the Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History. (11am-3pm) The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation will be at the Aviation Wing providing rides in a Huey Helicopter for the Vietnam Dustoff Association Conference attendees. After the attendees have ridden the AAHF will offer rides to the general public. Public rides will be available from 11am until 3pm. Public rides will be $75 per person. (This is a weather permitting event)

SAT AUG 3 BACK TO SCHOOL BASH 12-3 pm. Victory North Church will be impacting our community on Saturday, Aug 3rd from 12-3pm with a Back to School Bash at the Wingate Falls Apartments (located at 4801 Baker Grove Road, Acworth, GA 30101). This will be a FREE event with a huge water slide, food, fun games, face painting, and much more.  Backpacks with supplies given to registered apartment residents.  What an awesome opportunity to touch our community with God’s love! .

SATURDAY, AUGUST 3rd “JAWS” (8pm) at the Strand Theatre) Get ready for the yearly tradition of scaring yourself away from open water for the summer by coming to watch the classic ocean terror movie Jaws. Responsible for decades of thalassophobia, Jaws burst into America’s collective consciousness in 1975. Who would have thought that a movie about a super smart shark and two guys in a boat would have won three Oscars and still be watched by millions every year? Yeah, us too. That sounds awesome. fireworks1SAT AUG 3 KENNESAW’S FIREWORKS AND CONCERT RESCHEDULED.The City of Kennesaw has rescheduled their Concert and Fireworks for Saturday, August 3. SUNDAY, AUGUST 4th “Church Street Pipes and Pedals” (3pm) Dr. Calvert Johnson – Organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta and Professor Emeritus of Music at Agnes Scott College. Dr. Johnson holds both a Masters and Doctorate degrees in Organ Performance from Northwestern University and was awarded the prestigious Premier Prix (Médaille d’Or) while studying at the Tolouse Conservatoire in Paris, France. This Pipe Organ Summer Concert Series 2013 is open to the public and is a free gift and outreach from our church to the community. Each artist will be presenting a variety of music which promises to excite the senses, tickle the ear, stir the heart, and inspire the soul! Invite your family members, friends and neighbors. SUN AUG 4 – KENNESAW SUNDAY SUPPERS -6:00 PM The dinners are to raise awareness about local, fresh farm to table cuisine and to promote and raise funds to market Kennesaw’s Farmer’s Market. The menu is a four course dinner using all fresh, local organic meats and veggies. The suppers are held the first Sunday of each month in the plaza in downtown Kennesaw.  The price is $35.00.  Tickets are available at Big Shanty Barbershop or Traders 22 ($35 per person or $350 for a table of 10), or call Pam Eaton at 678-830-4292. The next supper is Sunday August 4.

TUES AUG 6 NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 6:30-8:30.  Kennesaw Police Department invites our community to join them at Swift Cantrell Park located at 3140 Old Hwy 41.  Several public safety vehicles will be on display from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Crime prevention information for the adults and special handouts for the kids will be available while supplies last.
