MARIETTAREADSSCARECROWSMarietta Reads  Celebrates literacy and reading

Marietta Reads!, the Marietta City Schools (MCS) citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in the community, celebrates its eleventh-year anniversary Saturday, September 28, 2013, in Glover Park, 50 Park Square, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“As it has done from the start, Marietta Reads! continues to have a significant impact on reading in our schools, and in engaging our community to improve literacy,” said Jill Sims, MCS Executive Director, Curriculum and Instruction. “Across the school district, we reinforce the importance of reading to all of our students every day, and Marietta Reads! makes a difference.”

The 2013 Marietta Reads! event offers a variety of literacy activities— a book fair, book costume characters, celebrity readers, school drama and dance performances, and guest appearances by Marietta Reads! mascot Mari-Etta.

‘We will also unveil the common book for our One Book Marietta initiative at the kickoff. This book will provide our entire community an opportunity to engage in reading and discussion activities related to this year’s selected book,” added Sims.
Marietta Reads! sponsors can give the gift of reading to someone else. Personal and Individual Sponsorships and Corporate/Business Sponsor contributions help purchase books, supplies, and resources necessary for implementing sound literacy programs.
