FRI SEP 1 – ART WALK – Marietta Square Art Walk continues Friday from 5pm to 9pm. Art Walk celebrates the vitality of Marietta’s diverse cultural Arts scene with artists, businesses, and organizations representing all the Arts.  The evening comes alive as performance, dance, culinary and visual Art permeate every corner of the charming Historic Marietta Square. FRI SEP 1 – DK GALLERY SEPTEMBER SHOW – An Opening Reception and Art Walk will be hosted by dk Gallery from 5-9, for “A Thousand Words” which will highlight dk Gallery artists who incorporate words, poetry, and/or song in their work. Expect to see artwork that showcases many literary art forms including collaged letters from magazines, poetry, and the artists’ handwritten notes on the pieces. SAT-MON SEP 2-4 – ART IN THE PARK FESTIVAL – The 31st Annual Marietta Art in the Park will showcase 175+ fine artists and plenty of entertainment for the entire family in historic Marietta Square. For the first time, Art in the Park includes the One Piece Project, a benefit for nonprofit organizations and celebration of art and beauty. Held in Glover Park on the Historic Marietta Square, Art in the Park offers Free Festival Admission. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Fun Weekend Events – August 25-28

FRI-SAT AUG 25-26 – PIGS N PEACHES BBQ FESTIVAL – The festival features two days of non-stop music, good eats, cold beer and interactive family-fun. Attendees will find over 200 vendors, exhibitor and contestant booths, a Kid Zone full of inflatable jumpers, amusements and attractions, tons of tasty treats to satisfy every whim, and an incredible lineup of live entertainment and street performers. Presented by XFINITY on Friday, August 25, 6 – 10 pm and Saturday, August 26, 10 am – 10 pm at Adams Park ending in fireworks at Saturday night at 9:30pm. Rain or shine. Admission is free. FRI AUG 25 – REMEMBER WHEN CLUB EVENT – The Marietta Museum of History continues its popular monthly program, the Remember When Club.  The Club explores what life was like in Cobb County when Highway 41 was known as the 4 lane, everyday shopping was done on the Square and life was just a little bit simpler. This month we will be focusing on the drive-ins and movie theatres in and around Marietta. This event is held in the first Floor Virginia Tumlin Room at 10:30am. at the Marietta Museum of History, 1 Depot Street, Marietta, GA 30060 FREE but donations are greatly appreciated!  If you would like to tour the Museum before or after the event, the cost is $5 per person.

FRI AUG 25 – GLOVER PARK CONCERT – “Live Exchange Party Band” will be playing a variety of music. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park.  Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m.   Bring a picnic dinner (beer & wine is permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square. SAT AUG 26 – RECYCLING EVENT AT HARRISON HIGH – The Harrison Bands will be holding an Electronics and Paint Recycle Day from 9:00am-5:00pm in the Upper Parking Lot of Harrison High School. Items to be recycled such as computers, power tools, heavy metals, lawnmowers, cell phones, telephone chargers, power cables, fax machines, TVs, monitors, etc. There is a $10.00 requested donation per car load.  Additional fees for tv, computer monitor and paint cans. Comic and Toy Show at Kennesaw Mountain High School


Saturday August 12; 10-5 pm

Kennesaw Mountain High School will host their third annual Kennesaw Comic and Toy Show Saturday, August 12 at the school’s Fine Arts Building.  The event will have vendors selling, buying and trading comics, cards, toys, action figures, GI Joes, original art, jewelry, vintage records, video games, books, and more.  In addition, there will trivia games, costume contests, card tournaments, discussion panels, special demonstrations, and a concession stand.

“Last year we had over 400 people attend, so we are hoping to grow even more this year” Carson Colenbaugh, senior on the Drama Leadership Team stated.  “I know a lot of my friends are excited about it.  It was so much fun last year!”
The event is a fund raiser for the school’s theater’s lighting and sound equipment.
“It’s a unique way for us to raise some money for our school and for the students and community to have the own little ‘Dragon Con’.” Added senior Nick Haddad.

“Last year, we had a wide range of vendors selling new and new items, as well as artists, and people promoting their websites and other events.  This year we have a special effects makeup session, and a cos play workshop.”  Noted the event coordinator and theatre director, Coy Dunn.

“It’s a great event for people of all ages.   With the popularity of all the comic book television shows and movies that are currently being produced, we thought we would try it. We have been extremely proud of the results!  It has now became a popular annual event.”   Dunn added.

SAT AUG 12 – SHREDDING EVENT – Keep Kennesaw Beautiful (KKB) will host a community shredding event at the Kennesaw Public Works facility on 3080 Moon Station Road from 9 am – noon (or until the shred truck is filled). There will be absolutely NO glass, metal, or electronics accepted at this event – only personal documents for shredding. The event is free and open to all; donations to support KKB educational programs will be accepted. PRESENTED MAY 12-13 2017

The Barbecue season kicks off the year with one of the first competitions in north Georgia. Over 30 teams will fill up Cauble Park in downtown Acworth on Friday May 12, from 5:00 p.m., to 10:00 p.m., and Saturday May 13, from 10:00 a.m., to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the festival is free and free parking can be found downtown with free shuttles running Friday night for the concert and fireworks and all day Saturday. Cauble Park and Lake Acworth has to be one of the most beautiful venues in our area – what better place to hold a family friendly backyard, BBQ competition.

You can smell the North Cobb Rotary Smoke on the Lake BBQ Festival from miles around.  This event is in its eighth year offering lots of cash and prizes for the BBQ competition, the Lord of the Wings and the People’s Choice.  Over 8,000 people are expected to visit!

The best Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, Sons of Sailors takes the stage on Friday night at 8:00 p.m., for the LGE Community Credit Union Concert Under the Stars. All ages will enjoy this show as they will be playing all your favorite Parrot Head songs. Fireworks will finish the night – shot over beautiful Lake Acworth.  General Admission is free on Friday night and tables of six can be purchased for $100, price includes your table and six chairs for the whole crew. Inflatables will be in place for kids of all ages. Slide down a giant 24-foot inflatable slide, jump on a huge obstacle course, shoot hoops in the bouncy basketball jumpy and others. Face painting will be available as well.

Lord of the Wings and People’s Choice Pork BBQ Competitions are judged by the Public

These two competitions have the largest direct impact on our community. The funds raised thru taster tickets sold to the public are used for multiple Rotary charity efforts. Your support is highly encouraged and needed – and it’s fun!

Lord of the Wings: Take part in the crowning of the Lord of the Wings Competition on Friday night as cook teams cook up their best recipe of the good old chicken wing!

People’s Choice Award: Come enjoy barbecue you can’t buy at any old store and help us decide who makes the best backyard BBQ Pork around. For a nominal charge you can purchase tastes of all the backyard teams competing in the competition all day on Saturday.

Trains, Trains, Trains – January 28 and 29!

dsc02702trainsWhether you are a lifelong model train enthusiast or you don’t know your O-gauge from your N-scale, model trains are for everyone! Come to the Trains, Trains, Trains event at the Southern Museum to see the best collection of model and modular train layouts in the area! The seventh-annual installment of Trains, Trains, Trains will be held on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29 from 9:30am to 5:00pm both days.

Come to the Southern Museum in Kennesaw, to enjoy the nostalgia and classic joy of model trains. Children of all ages will be fascinated by all things “choo-choo” so attend and share this great pastime with the younger generations. There will be a variety of model scales represented at the event, set up by hobby groups from around the Southeast. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers will bring an N-scale model with details so tiny you can’t even imagine how they make it work. The Georgia Garden Railway Society will set up their Garden scale layout, a returning favorite with a camera on the front to get a trains-eye view of the children watching.

Trains, Trains, Trains 2017 will bring back some of last year’s favorite bluegrass musicians, an expanded General Emporium gift shop with new shirts and toys, and several interactive layouts for kids of all ages to enjoy!

Museum admission for the event is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children three and under as well as Museum members. Clear Out Your Bookshelves and Swap Your Old Stories for New Adventures

bookcddvdswap_kidsKennesaw Parks & Recreation’s is hosting its popular Book, CD & DVD Swap at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive, on Saturday, January 28 from 8 to 11 a.m.

You still have time to  drop off gently used hardcover or paperback books, music CDs and DVD movies  Friday, January 27 from 12 to 8 p.m. and receive a ticket redeemable for the same number of items during “open swap” time on Saturday, January 28.

Books must have their front and back covers intact and be in good condition. CDs and DVDs must be in their original cases and fully operable. Magazines, software, record albums, VHS or cassette tapes, adult content, unauthorized or illegal material will not be accepted.

After the event, all unclaimed items will be donated to charitable organizations.

This is not a book sale. It is a FREE media swap. Items will not be available for purchase.

Assistance is needed during the event with receiving, sorting, counting and bagging items. Volunteers must have the ability to bend, stoop, stand and lift up to 20lbs. To sign up for a volunteer shift, visit and click on “Volunteers.”

AT DEC 10 – SLEIGHBELLS ON THE SQUARE 5K – The Cobb County Bar Association will host the 16th Annual Sleighbells on the Square 5k/1k/Tot Trot. Benefiting the Cobb Children’s Emergency Fund. greatgigSUN DEC 11 – SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF THE SEASON – Great Gig Dance Co. presents “Sights and Sounds of the Season,” a musical Christmas variety show to get you in the holiday spirit at NorthStar Church. This is a fundraiser for the Great Gig Dance Ensemble, to help offset their expenses as they perform through out the Southeast. Tickets are $12 in advance, and may be pre-purchased by calling Great Gig Dance Co. at 770-218-2112. You may also purchase tickets at the door for $15.
