Martinis and Music – February 12

Connoisseurs and curiosity seekers alike will enjoy the opportunity to sample from a selection of more than 30 wines from wineries that operate right here within the state of Georgia. Sing Along with Mamma Mia!

Mamma MiaThe Strand – on the Square – invites you to Sing Along with Mamma Mia on Saturday, Feb 6 starting at 8:00 pm. Sing along to your favorite ABBA songs with a theatre full of your friends at Mamma Mia! Set on the colorful Greek island of Kalokairi, the plot serves as a lively background for a wealth of ABBA songs, and we’ll even put the lyrics on the screen for you! A young woman soon to be married discovers that any one of three men (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth) could be her father. She invites all three to the wedding without telling her mother, Donna (Meryl Streep). Watch the drama ensue in this feel-good experience that will have you singing and dancing in the aisles.

LITTLE MISS COBB PAGEANT- Feb 6

Little Miss Cobb 2015There is still time to register for this year’s Little Miss Cobb County Pageant.

Young ladies ages 2 years through 18 years are invited to participate in the 25th anniversary Little Miss Cobb County Pageant set for the Marietta Campus, Kennesaw State University,  Joe Mack Wilson Theatre, Marietta, starting at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 6th. Six beauty titles will be awarded that day.

The pageant is managed and conducted to support the Miss Cobb County Pageant, a preliminary for Miss Georgia in the Miss America system.  Emcees for the day will be Brooke Doss,  Miss Cobb County 2016, and Carley Vogel, Cobb County’s Outstanding Teen 2016.

The new Cobb representatives will be goodwill ambassadors and ride in several area parades including the Kennesaw Big Shanty Festival  in April and the Marietta Fourth of July.  A host of prizes include a tiara, banner, trophy, flowers, teddy bear and crown pin. Also the winners will be guests at the North Georgia State Fair and the Miss Cobb County Pageant. A photogenic session and modeling training also await the title holders. This Friday, January 29th, you’re in luck. The PARADOCS, founded by Dr. Larry Clements and Dr. Joe Havlik, is comprised of healthcare professionals from the metro Atlanta area who have a passion for music. Free Book, CD & DVD Swap Returns on January 9

Book CD DVD SwapKennesaw Parks & Recreation’s annual Book, CD, and DVD Swap returns on Saturday, January 9 to the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive.

Drop off your gently used hardcover or paperback books, music CDs and DVD movies on Thursday and Friday, January 7-8 from noon to 8 pm and receive a ticket redeemable for the same number of items during “open swap” time on Saturday from 8-11 am.

Books must have their front and back covers intact and be in good condition. CDs and DVDs must be in their original cases and fully operable. Magazines, software, record albums, VHS or cassette tapes, adult content, unauthorized or illegal material will not be accepted. After the event, all unclaimed items will be donated to charitable organizations.

This is not a book sale. It is a FREE media swap. Items will not be available for purchase.

Assistance is needed during the event with receiving, sorting, counting and bagging items. Volunteers must have the ability to bend, stoop, stand and lift up to 20lbs.

Zach Seabaugh in The Semi-Finals for the Voice

Zach Seabaugh, The VoiceWe are so excited that Zachary Taylor Seabaugh, Marietta, GA is competing on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 in the Semi-Finals for The Voice.  Nine singers will be competing, five will go home on Tuesday night.  Let’s all make sure that Zach reaches the finals after his long journey that began at open auditions, in Atlanta last February.

It is important that everyone vote for Zach in order to keep him in the competition.  It is even more important that we purchase his song of the evening from iTunes ($1.29) as each purchase multiplies his votes by ten, if his song makes it in the top 10 of the 200 chart.  There are four ways to vote:  Download the Voice App into a smart phone and vote 10 times.  Vote online at NBC.COM and vote 10 times. Vote on www.facebook.com/NBCTHEVOICE and vote 10 times. Purchase his song of the evening on iTunes.  If the song makes it to top 10 on the top 200 chart, his votes get multiplied by 10.  Only one download per Eligible Song is counted.  You can use all four ways if you have a separate email from your Facebook account.
