grdbrkSo excited that the first phase of the Skate Park is beginning and will be completed this summer.  Cobb County officials, City of Kennesaw officials and staff along with the Swift Cantrell Foundation and many members of the original skatepark committee were on hand as the first ceremonial shovelfuls of dirt were thrown.

The concept originated in 2006 and it has taken seven years to come to fruition.  The skate park is a one of a kind, regional facility and is being built to host national competitions including the professional Street league competitions.

brianjoeOn hand for the ground breaking were Joe Ciaglia, CEO/Founder of California Skate Parks (who will be building the skate park) and Brian Moore President (and skateboarder), of Site Design Group, the architects that designed the park. (l-r) Brian and Joe.

The skate park will be a permanent facility and is the first ever permanent skate park to feature elements modeled on a street league design.  It will include elements for skateboarders of all skill levels and will be capable of hosting both large and small size skateboarding events.

The estimate total cost of the project (for both phases) is $1.8 million.  $1.4 million was approved by the voters as part of the 2011 SPLOST and the remained will come from corporate and private donations or grants.  No property taxpayers money will be used.
