Kennesaw’s Touch A Truck and other FAMILY events

Imagine a playground that allows families to get up-close and personal with big trucks, heavy construction and public safety equipment, cool cars and specialty vehicles… that’s Touch-A-Truck! Have a blast watching your kids touch levers, flip switches, and shift gears that make their favorite vehicles whir and rumble at this one-day-only “museum” of local transportation.

Admission is FREE. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
This is a FREE event and it will be held on Saturday, March 10 from 10-2 at the Depot in downtown Kennesaw (its on Cherokee St across from the museum).

SAT MAR 10 MARIETTA TREE KEEPERS PLANTING Marietta Tree Keepers invites volunteers of all ages to help plant trees in the Marietta City Cemetery on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 9:00am. Tools and refreshments provided. Dress for outdoor weather.We will be planting trees in the Marietta City Cemetery. The parking address is: Brown Park, 358 West Atlanta St., Marietta, 30064, look for the green signage. You can also drive into the middle of the cemetery and look for our sign-in table at the small white building. The date is Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 9:00am.

SAT MAR 10 SHREDDING EVENT 9-12. On Saturday, March 10, 2018, the City of Marietta and Keep Marietta Beautiful will hold a shredding event from 9am-12pm at 591 North Marietta Pkwy NE, Marietta, GA 30060. While the event is free, donations are greatly appreciated. If you have confidential or sensitive documents that need to be safely discarded, Keep Marietta Beautiful will shred will allow you to watch your documents as they are shredded on site. Paper items only will be accepted.

Pokemon Art on the Square: August 5 and More.

FRI. AUG 5 Marietta Square Art Walk continues August 5th with a new adventure.  Art Walk visitors can “catch ‘em all” (Pokémon ART, that is) throughout the The Marietta Square. Artists will hide small Pokémon themed works throughout town for visitors to find and take home! We’ll post clues about their location on our Facebook page throughout the evening. Finders, Keepers!!! runnerSAT AUG 6 – RUN FOR WOUNDED HEROES – This race is part of the Kennesaw Grand Prix 5k races. Downtown Kennesaw.  The race for adults and children benefits the Disabled American Veterans, United Military Care, KSU”s veterans scholarship fund, and help sponsor the City of Kennesaw’s Veterans Day luncheon. Same-day registration and packet pickup at Kennesaw First Baptist Church opens at 6:30 am; a one-mile fun run for children starts at 7:30 am with the 5K race beginning at 8 am. SAT AUG 6 – BOATING SAFETY CLASSES – The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department is proud to partner with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 22 to offer Boating Safety Classes at Roberts School Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This is a NASBLA certified boating safety course.  This is an entry level class aimed at the inland boater. FRI JULY 19 ACWORTH’S FIREWORKS AND CONCERT RESCHEDULED. The City of Acworth has rescheduled their Concert and Fireworks for Friday July 19. Festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. on July 19 with the music of the “Paul Hand Band, followed by a special tribute to the members of our Armed Forces at 7:45 p.m., the band “Flashback” at 8:00 p.m., and fireworks at dark. FRI SAT SUN, JULY 19-20 “Cotton Patch Gospel” at First United Methodist Church (7pm) Join us for Cotton Patch Gospel, a musical offering a fresh perspective on the life of Jesus with a modern twist on the Gospel message.  All shows are in the Family Life Hall, and doors will open 30 minutes prior to show time. FRI JULY 26 KENNESAW’S SPORTS SPECTACULAR 6-9. Discover everything you need to know about league sports at the Kennesaw Sports Spectacular, on Friday, July 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will be held at Adams Park, 2753 Watts Drive. Representatives from Kennesaw’s Youth Sports Leagues will be on hand to provide information, conduct registration, and answer questions about available programs.  Members of the Atlanta Falcons Cheerleaders will be on hand to greet fans. FRI , JULY 26 “Glover Park Concert Series -Symphony Saturday” The Glover Park Concert Series (8-10pm) Featuring The Grapevine (Beach Music / Oldies). The concerts are free of charge but if you’re looking for a “front-row seat,” a limited number of tables can be reserved — $45 for tables of six and $55 for tables for eight. Tables reservations are taken on a first come basis and may be reserved the first working day of each month. Blankets and lawn chairs only may be set up in the park after 4 p.m. Personal tables are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on North Park Square after 6:00 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner (beer and wine are permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

THU, FRI,  SUN – JULY 25, 26, 28 SPOT LIGHT ON KIDS Spotlight on Kids is a variety show performed at the Strand featuring local middle and high school students. It will be very similar in format and structure to other Strand productions such as Mo’ Motown, The Vegas Show 2013, and Strandemonium, and audiences can expected to be stunned and amazed by the level of talent displayed from the students. This is an all-ages show and fun for the whole family to enjoy. Make sure to mark your calendars and be sure not to miss talent of our local students. Weekend Happenings in our Community

FRI MAY 17 Relay For Life 7:00 PM JIM MILLER PARK. Every year thousands of Cobb County residents descend on Jim Miller Park in a 12-hour show of solidarity in the fight against cancer. This year the walkers will also be celebrating a milestone as the Cobb County American Cancer Society Relay For Life® will celebrate its 20th year. This year’s event, which will again be at Jim Miller Park, starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17th and lasts for 12 hours.

SAT MAY 18 Pigs for Pups Fundraiser 11-3. The Canine Pitner Park Parents (a non-profit group) is hosting its first annual Spring BBQ fundraiser at the Pitner Dog park pavilion, located at 2450 Pitner Road, Acworth, GA. 30101.   The fundraiser will provide funds to further improve the Pitner Dog Park.   BBQ lunches will be sold to help raise funds for the park.  We ask that all dogs be leashed and well behaved for an enjoyable event.  Observation of the rules and regulations of the park are strongly urged. SAT MAY 18 COME FIND YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND 10-4 Cobb County Animal Control is hosting it’s Annual Spring ADOPTATHON on Saturday, May 18 from 10am-4pm..  Over 300 dogs and cats have been adopted to forever homes from these special events.   If you have been thinking of bringing a new dog or cat, puppy or kitten into your home, there are special adoption rates that day.  In addition, there will be vendors, police K9 dog demonstrations, food, our fabulous DJ, and great raffle prizes.

SAT MAY 18 Kennesaw Cemetery Clean-up Day.  The Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Commission is hosting a clean-up and beautification day for Kennesaw’s historic cemetery on Saturday, May 4 from 10 am to 2 pm. The cemetery is located at Main and Cemetery Streets downtown.  Cleaning materials (except gloves) will be supplied.  Free lunch and drinks as well as live entertainment are also provided.  All are welcomed to come and participate.
