Run for Wounded Heroes 5K

Run for Wounded Heroes 5K is the fourth 5K in the Kennesaw Grand Prix Series, and takes place on Saturday, August 1 in downtown Kennesaw.  The race for adults and children benefits the Wounded Warrior Project. Same-day registration and packet pickup at Kennesaw First Baptist Church opens at 6:30 am; a one mile fun run for children starts at 7:30 am with the 5K race beginning at 8 am.  Price is $25 until July 23, $30 til July 30, and $35 on the day of the race – Aug 1.

Thanks to the 1700 runners who participated in the race last year. $20,000 dollars was donated to Wounded Warrior Project, and $1,000 to Kennesaw’s Veterans Luncheon. Over $75,000 has been donated to WWP in 5 years. You have made it very successful. We look forward to seeing everyone again.  Let’s make this 2,000 runners this year.

The race follows a fast, flat route through historic downtown Kennesaw and Swift-Cantrell Park and is fun for beginners and accomplished runners and walkers alike. The route is a USA Track and Field Certified course. Traffic control is coordinated by local law enforcement. The race is electronically timed for fast, accurate results. Race day refreshments are provided for all participants.

Registration is open now at active.com and is available at the Kennesaw Big Peach Running Company location. All registered 5K participants will receive an official race shirt, runner/walker number, and goodie bag. The Strand is celebrating its fifth annual Motown musical revue with fan favorite The Motown Sound in July 2015! FRI JULY 3 KENNESAW’S FOURTH OF JULY – The City of Kennesaw’s Salute to America, Independence Day celebration will be held on Friday, July 3, and will feature FREE, high-energy live music and  talented entertainers, plus one of the biggest and brightest star-spangled firework displays in North Georgia. The event is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. in downtown Kennesaw. From 6 – 7:30 pm on the DEPARTUREfeature stage in Depot Park, the United States Air Force Band of the West’s Concert Band will perform. This 45 member ensemble of Air Force professional musicians have a music repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day, featuring classical and Broadway music as well as Sousa marches and popular hits. From 8 – 9:30 pm, DEPARTURE, arguably the best, most respected Journey tribute band in the nation, plays all the hits of the ‘80s rock super group. The Atlanta-based band was voted “Best Local Entertainer” in 2014 by Gwinnett Magazine. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., and will be visible from several locations throughout downtown Kennesaw.  This event is free.

Live music with the Shreeps from 4-5; Paul Hand Band will start at 5:15 p.m. leading up to headliners “FLASHBACK” at 8:00 p.m. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:40 p.m. Stay for more FLASHBACK until 11:00 pm. Admission to the concert is free; however tables are available for the July 4 concert. Tables are $50 each for City of Acworth residents and $70 for non-residents. SAT MAY 30 – SWEET TEA 5K – West Cobb Church is hosting the Sweet Tea 5K at 8:00am, which will occur on the beautiful 149 acre Still Family Farm, 5630 Macland Rd., Powder Springs, GA 30127. ALL proceeds will benefit local and international missions. The entire race will be off-pavement, and wind through farmland and beautiful woods. Registration is $25 through May 28 and $30 thereafter. FRI MAR 27 – ACWORTH EGG HUNT – The City of Acworth and Freedom Church invite your family to their Easter Egg Hunt. The event will take place at the Acworth Sports Complex, 4000 South Main St. The egg hunt will be held on the baseball fields and we ask all participants to please park on the baseball side of the complex. Gates and concessions open at 6:30 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be arriving just before the first hunt begins! SAT APR 4 NORTHEAST COBB COMMUNITY EGG DROP. 10:00 am Bring the whole family out for the 6th Annual Northeast Cobb Community Egg Drop presented by Piedmont Church and Superior Plumbing and get ready as more than 90,000 eggs and pieces of candy are spread out and dropped from a helicopter at the football fields at Sprayberry High School April 4, 2015! Free admission and ample free parking will be available at Sprayberry High School. Food will also be available to purchase from the Sprayberry Football Booster Club and all other proceeds from the event go to support both the Shop with a Yellow Jacket and the Shop with a Longhorn programs for Sprayberry and Kell High Schools.

CITY OF KENNESAW CELEBRATION – SUNDAY JANUARY 18

The City of Kennesaw celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a community event Sunday January 18, 2015, 5pm at Kennesaw Mountain High School on Kennesaw Due West Rd.  Kennesaw, Georgia 30152.
The 5th Annual Celebration will focus on youth and will feature interpretive dance, youth essayists, a community choir, city officials and more.  As done in prior years of the celebration, local youth will receive the Trailblazer Award.  
Named for the man we honor as a trailblazer for racial equality and unity among all men through non-violent means, these cash awards are given to high school seniors who will matriculate into college for the fall semester.

Acworth’s Martin Luther King Day Celebration

The Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department will be hosting the 3rd annual MLK Day Celebration and 5th Annual Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2015.  The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will be held at the Acworth City Hall.  One of this year’s presenters was a participant in the 1968 Civil Rights Movement in Memphis, TN and we are honored to have her with us! Immediately following the ceremony, the Acworth Achievers Mentoring and After School Program will be hosting their Annual Day of Service.  They will be working on a service project in the Acworth community.  Come and join us!  All volunteers are welcome! Cobb County Celebration at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre.

Honor the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a special celebration Monday, Jan. 19, at Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. This year’s theme is “50 Years Later: Believe It, Achieve It” and the celebration begins at 10 a.m.
The community event is free and open to the public and will include the annual presentation of the “Living the Dream” award to a community member who demonstrates the ideals King exemplified. This celebration is sponsored by the Cobb County Branch NAACP and Cobb County Government. Anderson Theatre is located inside the Cobb Civic Center, 548 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta. SURPRISE APPEARANCE AT KENNESAW’S SANTA PARADE

Zack Everhart, SYTYCD winner and several members of the tour dance group will make a surprise appearance at the Saturday Dec 6, Kennesaw Santa Parade, downtown Kennesaw.  The tour group is in town for their performance at Cobb Energy that night.  The parade starts at noon.  Let’s all turn out and give these talented dancers a warm welcome. THUR. DEC 4 – SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN 5:00 And he is coming on a firetruck.  What could be more exciting for our children than to see Santa arrive with all the bells and whistles. Join Santa Claus for the kick off to the holiday season in Marietta, Thursday, Dec. 4, in Glover Park on the Marietta Square. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with performances by local school choruses. Santa will make his grand entrance at 5:20 p.m. and light the giant Christmas tree at 6 p.m. More entertainment will follow while Santa visits with children in the gazebo until 8 p.m.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. in downtown Kennesaw. The “Night Fever” of the 1970s disco era meets the “British Rock Invasion” of the 1960s when Stayin’ Alive and Satisfaction take the stage on Thursday, July at the City of Kennesaw’s Salute to America. Stayin’ Alive takes the state at   6:00 p.m., followed by Satisfaction.  Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m., and will be visible from several locations throughout downtown Kennesaw.  This event is free.

FRI JULY 4 – ACWORTH’S FOURTH OF JULY, Live music and fireworks at Cauble Park. Live music with the Paul Hand Band will start at 5:00 p.m. leading up to headliners “FLASHBACK” at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. Admission to the concert is free; however tables are available for the July 4 concert. Tables are $50 each for City of Acworth residents and $70 for non-residents. With the table you get 6 chairs and one parking pass. This parking pass will allow you to park at Cauble Park as long as spots remain available. Parking at Cauble Park is by pass only on July 4 but you are not guaranteed a parking spot at Cauble Park with this pass so please plan on arriving early.

FRI JULY 4 MARIETTA’S FOURTH OF JULY 10-10. Grab your American flag, put on your red, white and blue, and celebrate America’s independence July 4, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. with an Independence Day parade and celebration on the Square, free live concerts, arts and crafts show, food, carnival games and Superior Plumbing fireworks finale. Throughout the day, more than 80,000 people are expected to celebrate on the Square with great food, fun activities, the best arts and crafts around and free entertainment from different local entertainers and even Universal Republic Nashville Records country star- Greg Bates presented by 94.9 The Bull.  Plan on spending the day and enjoy shopping over 100 craft vendors, food concessions, a Kid’s Zone, concerts and fireworks.  Fireworks scheduled for 9:30 pm.
