Celebrate Go Skateboarding Day

Jake Wootin catching air!Join fellow skateboard enthusiasts at Kennesaw Skatepark on Saturday, June 21, from 11 am to 4 pm  at an event in recognition of the tenth anniversary of Go Skateboarding Day. The free event will feature open skate sessions, live music, “best trick” contests, giveaways, game tables, and a misting station. BBQ and frozen treats will be available for purchase. Kennesaw Skatepark is located at Swift-Cantrell Park, Kennesaw.

Contest start times are as follows: 1 p.m. – Impact Section, 2 p.m. – Centerpiece Gap, and 3 p.m. – Pool. Winners will receive a gift card; runner-ups will receive a skate deck. Advance registration is not required.

Go Skateboarding Day, held on June 21 every year, is the official holiday of skateboarding. Founded by the International Association of Skateboard Companies, Go Skateboarding Day gives passionate skateboarders as well as those who are simply inspired by the sport the opportunity to drop everything and get on a skateboard. It is a cooperative of decentralized events that take place around the globe. Skateboard retailers, manufacturers, skateparks, distributors, organizations and individuals of all colors, creeds, and attitudes hold events to celebrate the holiday.

The Kennesaw event is presented by Ambush Board Co. and Kennesaw Pediatrics. Additional sponsors include J.D.’s Bar-B-Que, Game Truck, NCG Cinemas, Papa John’s Pizza, and Red Bull. posterChuy’s is a new Tex-Mex restaurant that is opening right down the street from the Kennesaw Top Dogs! Chuy’s has a “Dog Wall” in all the bars of their restaurants. For a $5.00, or more, donation to Pawsitive Supporters, Chuy’s will take your dog’s picture, frame it, and hang it on their “Dog Wall” in the Kennesaw Chuy’s. You will receive a “free appetizer” gift card for when they open. All donations will be used to transport homeless pets to forever homes in the Northeast! No appointment necessary.  This event will be held at Top Dogs Pet Boutique, 2615 George Busbee Parkway, Kennesaw on Saturday, June 14 from Noon til 4:00 pm.

Fun Easter Events for Acworth, Kennesaw, Marietta

Tickets are now on sale for an “all-you-care-to-eat” Bunny Breakfast, scheduled on Saturday, April 5 at the Ben Robertson Community Center in Kennesaw. Seatings are available at 8 am and 10 am. The annual breakfast is sponsored by the city’s Parks & Recreation Department and the Kennesaw-Acworth Optimists will be on hand to make the pancakes..
The menu consists of pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, coffee and a few other delicious surprises. Children will be able to visit with the Easter Bunny as he makes his way from table to table.
Advance tickets are $5 per person, and may be purchased online at or at the community center, which is located 2753 Watts Drive. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $8 per person (based on availability, space is limited).
Children two years of age and under do not need a ticket; however they must sit on an adult’s lap. Cobb County’s Largest Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, April 19th, at Jim Miller Park in Marietta. The event begins at 10:00am and ends at 2:00pm. The 2014 Hunt will feature children’s art activities, live entertainment, inflatables, and concessions. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to delight the children and there will be contests, including the Mad Hatter Contest and Decorated Basket Contest. There will be five egg hunts which will be broken down into age groups. In each hunt, there will be special prize eggs. Schedule of hunts by age is at Admission for The Hunt is free. We have the opportunity for another $1500 grant for FIT CITY KENNESAW just for showing up and having the largest group.  It is a FREE event, but we have to register. There is a free lunch for all the participants and an awesome swag bag! Let’s show them how we do it in Kennesaw down at the Capitol. A caravan will leave from Swift Cantrell Park at 8:30am on Saturday March 8th.I have participated in this day at the Capitol for the last three years and have made some wonderful contacts for our city. I would appreciate it if you would pass this along to anyone in your network and help!


4th Annual Be Healthy Georgia Day with Lt Governor Casey Cagle at the State Capitol

Trains, Trains, Trains at Southern Museum, Jan 25

Southern Museum Gets On Board with “Trains” Event

GloverInterested in railroading and trains, model and otherwise?  The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History will host the family friendly “Trains, Trains, Trains” event on Saturday, January 25 from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., focusing on all aspects of trains and featuring a model train expo. Throughout the museum, displays will feature crafts, tips and techniques for building a home layout, and a variety of operating model train layouts. The daylong event will also consist of interactive activities, including a train-themed story time, railroad music and vendors selling a variety of train-related items.

In addition to the day’s special events, visitors have an opportunity to explore the museum’s permanent exhibits to learn about the Great Locomotive Chase, one of the Civil War’s most thrilling episodes. The museum also includes a full-scale replica of Glover Machine Works, a locomotive factory in nearby Marietta that helped rebuild the South after the war.

The museum is located at 2829 Cherokee Street in downtown Kennesaw (exit 273 on Interstate 75). Tickets are available for prepurchase at  Adults: 13 and older are $7.50; Children: 4-12 are $5.50; Children 3 and under are free; Seniors: 65 and older are $6.50. Ambush is hosting hosting a party at the Kennesaw Skatepark  (Swift Cantrell Park on Hwy 293), called Backin’ Georgia. Vox Footwear is traveling the United States filming for Tony Hawk’s Ride Channel. Each state they visit will have its own segment. Ambush and The Kennesaw Skatepark will be hosting Vox in their quest to highlight Georgia’s best skaters on February 1st from Noon to 3:00 pm at the Kennesaw Skatepark (possibly until 5:00 pm if the event is killing it).
