The largest Shrine Circus and Fair in North America is back for its 74th year! Packed with more excitement than ever, this year’s Tarzan Zerbini Circus features several new acts under the Big Top including the World Famous Wallenda Family, The Flying Cortes, The Zerbini Animals including the Nerger’s Lion and Tigers and the Close Encounter of the Exotic Kind, The Amazing Videlas and the Real Steel Riders presenting their Motorcycle Globe of Fire and the always hilarious Red Devil Clowns. New for 2016 will be a spectacular fireworks show on both Saturday nights of the Shrine Circus, the Scott’s Future of Magic Show and the Kachunga the Alligator Show! Returning again this year is the Robinson’s Racing Pigs and Paddling Porkers Show! Wade Shows always provide fun affordable family entertainment with 35 rides for all ages. Come be entertained and amazed then fill up on all your favorite carnival foods- corn dogs, funnel cakes and cotton candy, just to name a few.    This all takes place at Jim R. SAT MAY 21 – ROSE GARDEN GALA – The Smith-Gilbert Gardens Foundation will hold its 6th Annual Rose Garden Gala starting at 6 pm. Proceeds from this fundraising event are used to support science and nature-based education programs and to conserve, enhance, and study the more than 3,000 plants in the Gardens collection. SAT MAY 21 – TOUCHSTONES TO THE PAST – The Marietta Museum of History’s Registrar, Christa McCay, continues her walks through the Marietta City Cemetery. The tours begin at the brick pavilion between the Confederate and City Cemeteries.  Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at www.touchstonestothepast.eventbrite.com.  Tickets will not be sold day of unless it is exact cash or check.

FRI MAY 27 – REMEMBER WHEN DAN COX DID… – Marietta Museum of History Founder and CEO, Dan Cox will be retiring from the Museum on May 27th after 22 years at the helm.  We are asking guests to come and share stories and memories of Dan. Location: Marietta City Council Chambers, 205 Lawrence Street.  The event will start at 10:30am and will last no later than noon.  The event is FREE!

FRI MAY 27 – GLOVER PARK CONCERT – The Glover Park Concert Series next concert, featuring The Tams, playing Carolina Beach Music at 8 p.m. in Glover Park on the Marietta Square. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park. Personal tables and plastic ground coverings are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on the street after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

SAT MAY 28 – VETERANS MEMORIAL 5K – The American Legion Family at Post 29 in Marietta is hosting the 2nd Annual Veterans Memorial 5K Run starting and finishing at Marietta Square.  The goal is to Honor Our Heroes – Past, Present, Fallen by raising funds to benefit Georgia Veterans and their families. SAT MAY 28 – MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY –  Acworth will host the Memorial Day Ceremony to honor those who have given their lives in service to our country at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point in Cauble Park. Veterans and current servicemen will pay tribute to brave men and women who have fought and died for our nation. Engraved pavers dedicated to those who have served in our armed forces that have been purchased since the previous Veterans Day will be presented at the event. FRI MAY 3 FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK 5-9. Held the first Friday of the month, April-October, Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour to Marietta’s diverse art scene.  Art galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants and boutiques host artists within their stores and are open 5pm-9pm. The next date is Friday May 3, .  Look for an official Art Walk banner in the window to identify the participating venues.  Pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted and choose your own route.  Maps of the venues are available at each participating merchant, the Marietta Visitors Bureau, at the Art Walk sandwich board signs and online at  www.artwalkmarietta.com. FRI MAY 3 – ART WITH HEART FUNDRAISER. This one-night event will be a lot of fun and they are hoping  to raise the $10,000 needed to fund the children’s programs. Each of the celebrity artists will have their paintings auctioned at the end of the evening along with art that has been donated. 12 of Marietta’s top leaders in the community will do live painting, and a jazz band, food and beverages add spice to the night. The fun starts at 5pm on Friday night May 3rd at Arts of Cobb, just off the Square. Live auction is at 7:30PM. It’s a free event and open to the public. This is the same evening as First Friday Art Walk – drop by and take a look. FRI MAY 3 YARN BOMBING AT MCMA. You are invited to join the Open Studio We invite knitters/crocheters/fiber artists to work on a project(s) at the museum, from 5 – 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3, during Art Walk. All ages are welcome! FRIDAY, MAY 3rd (5-9pm). 2 Rules Fine Art hosts opening reception for “Dolls in the City,” a group exhibit by members of the Women’s Caucus for Art of Georgia to raise awareness about human sex trafficking. The reception is free and open to the public, and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a group art project. FRI MAY 3 J.KING ART GALLERY & STUDIO 5-9. The studio will reveal the second hint to unlock J. King Art Gallery & Studio’s 2013 season’s theme…Human Touch. FRI & SAT. MAY 3 & 4 Spring Plant Sale at the Root House. 10 to 5. Corner of Polk Street and North Marietta Parkway, just off the Marietta Square.  On hand will be Cobb County Master Gardeners, offering for sale a wide variety of shrubs, Perennials, and heirloom tomato plants.

SAT MAY 4 Kennesaw Cemetery Clean-up Day.  The Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Commission is hosting a clean-up and beautification day for Kennesaw’s historic cemetery on Saturday, May 4 from 10 am to 2 pm. The cemetery is located at Main and Cemetery Streets downtown.  Cleaning materials (except gloves) will be supplied.  Free lunch and drinks as well as live entertainment are also provided.  All are welcomed to come and participate.

SAT MAY 4 – LOVE A BUNCH ~ COME TO BRUNCH 10-Noon.  Sponsored by 10 Women of Hope.  The Brunch will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 165 Lemon St., Marietta.  Keynote speaker is Rona Roberts, PhD and author of “Greater Acts than These.  Wear your favorite “stylin’ shoes” Prizes to be awarded.  Tickets are $20 and available at the door.

SAT MAY 4 Aquafina Pitch, Hit, & Run Noon-2:00 pm The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the Aquafina Pitch, Hit, & Run competition on Saturday, May 4th from 12noon – 2:00 p.m. at the Acworth Sports Complex Field 3, located at 4000 S. Main Street in Acworth. This competition is a free skills competition that provides boys and girls, age 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting, and running abilities. SAT, MAY 4 “Helicopter Day at Marietta Museum of History’s Aviation Wing” (10am-4pm) Located at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and Atlanta Road. The public is invited to see helicopters currently used by law enforcement, emergency medical services and the U.S. military in the metropolitan Atlanta area and learn about the various roles these aircraft play in saving lives and protecting our cities, counties, state and nation.

SAT, MAY 4 “Brumby Hall and Gardens Tour” (10am-4pm) at Brumby Hall and Gardens – 500 Powder Springs St.  The event is part of National Preservation Month in May. Brumby Hall and Gardens will be free during the tour, and docents will be on site if you have questions or want more information  about Brumby Hall or the gardens

SAT, MAY 4  “St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery Tour” (11am-4pm) at  St. James’ Episcopal Church Cemetery – 161 Church St.  The event is part of National Preservation Month in May. The St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery will be free during the tour, and docents will be on site if you have questions or want more information about the church or cemetery

SAT, MAY 4  “Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society Spring Garden Party” (4-8pm)Located at  Oakton – 581 Kennesaw Ave. The event is in honor of the 175th anniversary of Oakton House and is open to the public. Tickets Adults: $75 , Couples: $140,Families: $200.  The garden party will include a garden and barn tour, Civil War camp with reenactors, horse and carriage photo op, buffet and bar.

SAT, MAY 4 -5   “37th Annual Arts and Crafts Festival” (10am-6pm) In Glover Park on the Square  More than 100 local and area artists and craftspeople will display and sell their work at the 36th annual May-retta Daze Arts and Crafts Festival in Glover Park. Exhibitors include painting, pottery, woodwork, metal, jewelry, glass, fabric, floral designs, demonstrations and much more.  Admission is free, and free parking is available in the Cobb County parking garage, which can be accessed using the Waddell Street entrance. Handicapped parking is also available.
