Trains, Trains, Trains presented by Dixie Precast!  will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, and Sunday, January 28 at the Southern Museum, Kennesaw.

Bigger and better than ever, the Museum has pulled out all the stops for two incredible, fun-filled days of family oriented activities. “Model trains are a wonderful way to bring families together,” remarks Dr. Richard Banz, executive director of the Southern Museum, “Each year we see many repeat families, many of whom stay and enjoy the event for the greater part of the day.”

This year’s Trains, Trains, Trains! will include model railroad layouts of different scales and gauges from regional groups including North Georgia Tinplate Trackers, Athens Bend Track, North Georgia Garden Railroad Society, and more! DixieLUG LEGO® User Group returns with their extremely popular Lego model train layout.  With over 25,000 square feet of intricate and elaborate train layouts for train enthusiasts, exhibits, and interactive activities, the whole family can enjoy this extraordinary event while making memories that last a lifetime.

An expanded Museum Gift Shop will offer new train items, lots of children’s books, and exquisite, new-to-the-museum gifts, toys, and collectibles, perfect for the train enthusiasts, kids, and fans of history!

Clear Out Old Books, Videos at Media Swap

Kennesaw Parks & Recreation will host its popular Book, CD & DVD Swap at the Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive, on Saturday, January 27 from 8 to 11 a.m.

Here’s how it works: Drop off gently used hardcover or paperback books, music CDs and DVD movies on Thursday and Friday, January 25 – 26 from noon to 8 p.m. and receive a ticket redeemable for the same number of items during “open swap” time on Saturday, January 27.

Books must have their front and back covers intact and be in good condition. CDs and DVDs must be in their original cases and fully operable. Magazines, software, record albums, VHS or cassette tapes, adult content, unauthorized or illegal material will not be accepted.

After the event, all unclaimed items will be donated to charitable organizations.

This is not a book sale. It is a FREE media swap. Items will not be available for purchase.

SAT JAN26-27 & FEB 2-3. IN THE HEIGHTS. Marietta High School presents “In the Heights,” by Lin-Manuel Miranda (of “Hamilton” fame) January 26-27 and February 2-3.  “In the Heights”is the story of three days in the lives of residents of Washington Heights, New York City.  25 member cast, live band and members of the dance and chorus departments are featured.  Tickets $12-18.  For tickets and more information visit bluedevilthreatre.com

SAT JAN 27 – LOCKER ROOM MEN’S BREAKFAST – Jason Romano of Sports Spectrum will serve as the featured speaker for the Locker Room Men’s Breakfast event at NorthStar Church at 8:00am. The event marks the first of the church’s series of “Locker Room” events which aims to blend sports and faith, and is open to all men (middle school aged and older) throughout the Atlanta area. The first 100 men to register for the event will receive a complimentary copy of the book. The cost is $5.00 per person to cover the cost of a gourmet breakfast provided by Arise Kitchen. Assistance is needed during the event with receiving, sorting, counting and bagging items. Volunteers must have the ability to bend, stoop, stand and lift up to 20lbs. Activities will also include the opportunity to speak with collections staff about our many railroad artifacts on display for visitors to hold, touch, and discover how they were used. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children three and under. This event is FREE for members. Trains, Trains, Trains – January 28 and 29!

dsc02702trainsWhether you are a lifelong model train enthusiast or you don’t know your O-gauge from your N-scale, model trains are for everyone! Come to the Trains, Trains, Trains event at the Southern Museum to see the best collection of model and modular train layouts in the area! The seventh-annual installment of Trains, Trains, Trains will be held on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29 from 9:30am to 5:00pm both days.

Come to the Southern Museum in Kennesaw, to enjoy the nostalgia and classic joy of model trains. Children of all ages will be fascinated by all things “choo-choo” so attend and share this great pastime with the younger generations. There will be a variety of model scales represented at the event, set up by hobby groups from around the Southeast. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers will bring an N-scale model with details so tiny you can’t even imagine how they make it work. The Georgia Garden Railway Society will set up their Garden scale layout, a returning favorite with a camera on the front to get a trains-eye view of the children watching.

Trains, Trains, Trains 2017 will bring back some of last year’s favorite bluegrass musicians, an expanded General Emporium gift shop with new shirts and toys, and several interactive layouts for kids of all ages to enjoy!

Museum admission for the event is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors, $5.50 for children ages 4-12, and free for children three and under as well as Museum members.
